PAD i The BUCS Padel Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the following BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, and the International Federation of Padel (FIP) Rules of Padel. Further event specific requirements, rules, and regulations will be contained within the entry and pre-event information for each Championship.
PAD ii In the event that these regulations contradict the BUCS general regulations, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.
PAD iii In the event that these regulations contradict the International Federation of Padel (FIP) Rules of Padel, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.
PAD iv The gender eligibility criteria for the BUCS Padel Championships will be determined as per REG 4.3.
PAD 1 Championships BUCS will host annually a Padel Championships. The programme shall include the categories listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.
PAD 2 All players must be a hold an LTA Advantage Membership.
PAD 3 Competition Rules
PAD 3.1 The entry information and pre-event information shall contain event specific information, including the proposed tournament structure and format, any entry requirements, and/or any entry restrictions.
PAD 3.2 There shall be separate Men’s and Women’s competitions, each consisting of up to 64 teams.
PAD 3.3 The Championships will be held across two days. The format of each competition will be determined based on the number of teams.
PAD 3.4 Squad and team selection
PAD 3.4.1 Each squad will consist of a minimum of two players and a maximum of three players, with only two players participating in each match.
PAD 3.4.2 Following teams being entered on BUCS Play, players who wish to be eligible for selection for a team must apply to join, and be accepted into, the team’s squad on BUCS Play by the deadline listed in the entry information.
PAD 3.4.3 No substitutions can be made during a match. If a player is unable to continue a match, then their team shall retire and their opponents shall be deemed to have won all the remaining games and sets necessary to win the match.
PAD 3.4.4 Individuals are not permitted to be named on a team sheet, or play, for more than one team within a competition.
PAD 3.5 Playing Kit Where possible institutions/Playing Entities should endeavour to wear team kit, identifying the name of the University/College.
PAD 3.6 League/pool/group stage points
PAD 3.6.1 Three points shall be awarded for a win and zero points for a loss.
PAD 3.6.2 Where a walkover is awarded/conceded, three points shall be given to the non-offending team, and the result shall be recorded as a 2-0 win for the non-offending team.
PAD 3.6.3 No points will be awarded in the case of a void fixture.
PAD 3.7 Calculating final league/pool/group stage positions Final positions will be primarily based on points accumulated. However, should there be any ties on points within a league/pool/group stage, they shall be split by the following sequential systems:
PAD 3.7.1 A team tied on points in a league/pool/group stage who has conceded any walkovers shall automatically be placed below other tied teams who have conceded fewer walkovers.
PAD 3.7.2 Tie between two teams
PAD 3.7.2.1 The result between the teams will be the determining factor in placing one team above the other. Where teams have played each other twice, the aggregate score of the two matches will determine the higher placed team. If this does not determine the higher placed team;
PAD 3.7.2.2 The team with the higher sets difference shall be deemed the higher placed team. If a tie still exists;
PAD 3.7.2.3 The team with the highest sets won shall be deemed the higher placed teams. If a tie still exists;
PAD 3.7.2.4 If the higher placed team cannot be determined from the system above, then this shall be determined by the toss of a coin by the Tournament Director/Referee or a BUCS Staff Member.
PAD 3.7.3 Tie between three of more teams
PAD 3.7.3.1 Where three or more teams are tied on points, a 'mini-league' table shall be formed to calculate the higher placed team from the results between the relevant teams using the following sequential system.
If, at any stage of applying PAD 3.7.3.2–PAD 3.7.3.4, one or more teams can be separated from the tied group (that is, their relative position becomes determinable above or below at least one other member of the original tied group), those separated teams shall be removed from the tied group and placed accordingly. The tie-breaking procedure shall then be re-applied from the beginning of the applicable process for the number of remaining teams who are still tied.
If the number of remaining tied teams is reduced to two, the procedure in PAD 3.7.2 shall be applied to determine their order.
If the number of remaining teams is three or more, the procedure in PAD 3.7.3 shall be applied to determine their order. This iterative removal and re-application shall continue until all tie(s) are resolved.
PAD 3.7.3.2 Points accumulated. If a tie still exists;
PAD 3.7.3.3 The team with the higher sets difference shall be deemed the higher placed team. If a tie still exists;
PAD 3.7.3.4 The team with the highest sets won shall be deemed the higher placed teams. If a tie still exists;
PAD 3.7.3.5 If the higher placed team cannot be determined from the system above, then this shall be determined by the Tournament Director/Referee or a BUCS Staff Member drawing lots.
PAD 4 Disputes at Events In line with REG 7.7, should a dispute occur at an event, the event appeal panel for Padel shall comprise of the Tournament Director/Referee and/or a BUCS Staff Member.
