Held every two years, the Summer World University Games is the next biggest multi-sport event after the Olympics Games.

Organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the upcoming summer editions of the FISU World University Games will be Rhine-Ruhr 2025, Chungcheong 2027 and North Carolina.

The prestigious international university multi-sport Games provide a platform for talented students to compete alongside competitors from countries all around the world. FISU World University Games are widely recognised as a unique performance environment and as a significant formative development opportunity for both athletes and support staff.

Rhine-Ruhr 2025

Germany will host the summer edition of the FISU World University Games across five host cities in the German region of North Rhine Westphalia, Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mulheim an der Ruhr.

The prestigious international multi-sport Games will welcome an anticipated 10,0000 athletes and officials from across 170 countries between the 16-27 July 2025.

Athletes will compete across 18 different sports across the 12 days of the Games including the following fifteen sports are part of the fixed programme of the summer edition of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games: badminton, basketball, archery, fencing, apparatus gymnastics, judo, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, water polo and water diving. The optional three sports included will be 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball and rowing to complete the programme.

Chungcheong 2027

The FISU Executive Committee met across the weekend of the 11-12 November 2022 in Brussels, the main purpose to select the region or city that will organise the 2027 FISU World University Games Summer.

The Executive Committee of FISU announced that the hosts of the summer edition of the FISU World University Games in 2027 will be Chungcheong, Korea.

The Chungcheong 2027 FISU World University Games will be held for 18 sports in 31 venues across four cities and provinces in Chungcheong: Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam.

The following fifteen sports are part of the fixed programme of the summer edition of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games: badminton, basketball, archery, fencing, apparatus gymnastics, judo, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, water polo and water diving. The optional sports included will be football, rowing and sailing.

North Carolina 2029

The 2029 FISU World University Games is going to be held in the Raleigh-Durham-Cary-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, USA.

North Carolina mounted a strong bid for the 2027 World University Games, which were awarded to Chungcheong Megacity in South Korea in November. The FISU Summer World University Games have only been held once previously in the United States in 1993 in Buffalo, New York

The following fifteen sports are part of the fixed programme of the summer edition of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games: badminton, basketball, archery, fencing, apparatus gymnastics, judo, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, water polo and water diving. The optional sports included will be baseball, softball, rugby, football.
