Held every two years, the Summer World University Games is the next biggest multi-sport event after the Olympics Games.

Organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the next World University Summer Games is to be held in Chengdu, China between 28 July and 8 August 2023 after two successive years of postponement.

The Games provide a platform for students to compete on the international stage alongside competitors from countries all around the world. The Games are widely recognised as a unique performance environment and as a significant development opportunity for both athletes and support staff.

GB Students have been to all but one edition of this event since its inception in 1937 and we are keen to continue our participation. We are actively working toward sending a multi-sport delegation despite the financial and logistical challenges that we currently face. The ongoing and evolving impact of the pandemic, in which China currently employs a zero COVID policy, is likely to impact both the costs of participation and aspects of the preparations and games-time experience, with extensive testing and isolation protocols expected to remain in place.

We will continue to work in the best interests of all members and students in conjunction with FISU and the Organising Committee.
