SAI i The BUCS Sailing Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the following BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing, and the RYA Racing Charter. Further event specific requirements, rules, and regulations will be contained within the entry information, pre-event information, Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for each Championship.

SAI ii In the event that these regulations contradict the BUCS general regulations, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.

SAI iii In the event that these regulations contradict the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing or the RYA Racing Charter, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.

SAI iv The gender eligibility criteria for the BUCS Sailing Championships will be determined as per REG 4.3.


SAI 1 Championships BUCS will host annually the following Championships:

SAI 1.1 Fleet Racing Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

SAI 1.2 Match Racing Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

SAI 1.3 Team Racing Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

SAI 1.4 Yachting Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

SAI 2 Team formats

SAI 2.1 Fleet Racing Championships

SAI 2.1.1 Open Team Teams are made up of the top three boats from each institution/Playing Entity (not including any boats which have opted to be eligible for the Women's Team category) who have raced in fleets of 15 or more, who have the combined lowest score, calculated at the end of the event. Following the entry deadline; if a class has less than 15 entries and is merged with another class, all boats in the merged class will be awarded points as if they had initially entered that merged class.

SAI 2.1.2 Women's Team Teams are made up of the top three boats from each institution/Playing Entity (of all women, which have opted to be eligible for the Women's Team category) who have raced in fleets of 15 or more, who have the combined lowest score, calculated at the end of the event. Following the entry deadline; if a class has less than 15 entries and is merged with another class, all boats in the merged class will be awarded points as if they had initially entered that merged class.

SAI 2.1.3 All boats will automatically be eligible for the Open Team category. To be eligible for the Women's Team category instead, competitors must opt their boat into this during in-person registration and in doing so withdraw their eligibility for the Open Team category.

SAI 2.2 Match Racing Championships Each team shall consist of 3–5 competitors and must contain at least one woman and one man as part of the crew. The exact team size each year will be confirmed in the Entry Information and Notice of Race.

SAI 2.3 Team Racing Championships Each team shall consist of six competitors and must contain at least two women and two men.

SAI 2.4 Yachting Championships Each team shall consist of eight competitors and must contain at least two women and two men.

SAI 3 Disputes at events In line with REG 7.7, should a dispute occur at an event, the event appeal panel for Sailing shall be as outlined in the relevant event Sailing Instructions.
