Step one is to top the BUCS domestic championships, step two is to represent your university on the European stage.

The next multi-sport European Universities Games will take place in Salerno, Italy between 18 July and 1 August 2026.

Following top four qualification in the BUCS National Championships or relevant events, teams and individuals will be eligible to complete at the European Universities Games 2026 across 3x3 Basketball, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Football, Futsal, Handball, Padel, Rugby 7’s, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.

Universities qualify via three different routes dependent on where that sport sits in the BUCS programme. This can be via the League and Knockout Programme, BUCS events or National Governing Body selection. Universities will be contacted directly by the BUCS International Department if they are in a position where they could qualify, or information will be shared in the BUCS event guides for the relevant sports.

The Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc held the 7th edition of the European Universities Games, governed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA), took place between the 12-24 July 2024.

The European Universities Games are one of the world’s largest university multisport events held biennially, where athletes from European universities compete, representing their higher education institutions from their National University Sports Federation (NUSF).

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was represented at the EUSA European Universities Games 2024 by over 110 athletes from 47 different member institutions. This represented 11% of the total universities competing across the international multi-sport Games, highlighting the strength and depth of British university sport. Across athletes and officials, a total number of 4,736 participants took part in the European Universities Games representing 414 universities from 36 countries.

British universities succeeded in achieving 15 medals in five different sports amongst a high-level of European competition with just under a third of member institutions attending winning a medal. Notably, three of the medals won were achieved in para-sport with a gold and two silvers in para table tennis.
