Cycling regulations for 2022-23 | Published 28 September 2022

Please note: Regulations are currently under review for the 2023-24 season and so those currently published are subject to change.

CYC i The BUCS Cycling Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the following BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, and the rules of the appropriate International or National Governing body. Further event specific requirements, rules, and regulations will be contained within the entry and pre-event information for each Championship.

CYC ii In the event that these regulations contradict the BUCS general regulations, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.

CYC iii In the event that these regulations contradict the rules of the appropriate International or National Governing body, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.


CYC 1 Championships BUCS will host annually the following Championships:

CYC 1.1 10 Mile Time Trial Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

CYC 1.2 25 Mile Time Trial Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

CYC 1.3 3-Up Team Time Trial Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

CYC 1.4 Downhill Mountain Bike (DH MTB) Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

CYC 1.5 Hill Climb Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

CYC 1.6 Road Race Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers.

CYC 1.7 Track Championships The programme shall include the events listed in Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’), subject to entry numbers and event programme capacity.

CYC 1.7.1 The final choice of Championship events and awards is at the organiser’s discretion.

CYC 1.7.2 In the event of any incident or accident the organiser reserves the right to delay, alter or cancel races as appropriate to the situation.

CYC 2 Racing rules

CYC 2.1 All BUCS Cycling Championships shall be run under the rules of the Governing Body for the appropriate discipline, in addition to these sport specific regulations and the BUCS general regulations.

CYC 2.2 All disciplinary action taken by a Governing Body on individuals or clubs shall apply, in addition to those deemed necessary by the BUCS Cycling Event Management Group.

CYC 2.3 Organisers promoting a BUCS Cycling Championships reserve the right to request all competing institutions to supply a marshal. Failure to comply with the request may result in the competing institution’s entry being rejected and/or disqualification from/at the event.

CYC 3 Overall/Extracted Team criteria

CYC 3.1 10 Mile Time Trial Championships The Men’s Team and Women’s Team results will be calculated using extracted results from the individual races. Men's team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for three riders from an institution/Playing Entity. Women's team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for two riders from an institution/Playing Entity.

CYC 3.2 25 Mile Time Trial Championships The Men’s Team and Women’s Team results will be calculated using extracted results from the individual races. Men's team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for three riders from an institution/Playing Entity. Women's team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for two riders from an institution/Playing Entity.

CYC 3.3 3-Up Team Time Trial Championships The Mixed Team results will be calculated using extracted results from the Men's and Women's races. Team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for one Men's Team and one Women's Team from an institution/Playing Entity.

CYC 3.4 Downhill Mountain Bike (DH MTB) Championships The Men’s Team and Women’s Team results will be calculated using extracted results from the individual races. Men’s team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for three riders from an institution/Playing Entity from the Championship race run. Women’s team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for two riders from an institution/Playing Entity from the Championship race run.

CYC 3.5 Hill Climb Championships The Men’s Team and Women’s Team results will be calculated using extracted results from the individual races. Men's team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for three riders from an institution/Playing Entity. Women's team placings shall be determined by the fastest aggregate time for two riders from an institution/Playing Entity.

CYC 3.6 Road Race Championships There will be no Overall/Extracted Team results.

CYC 3.7 Track Championships The Men’s Team and Women’s Team results will be calculated based on the results of all Championship events and shall exclude results from any filler events. The top eight finishers in each event shall contribute points towards their team's score. First place in each event shall be worth eight points, with points reducing by one for each subsequent position down to eighth place which shall be worth one point.

CYC 4 No prize money shall be awarded at any BUCS Cycling Championships.

CYC 5 Disputes at events In line with REG 7.7, should a dispute occur at an event, the event appeal panel for Cycling shall comprise of the Event Organising Committee.
