Get your boat on the water and your crew in sync. It's time for the BUCS Rowing Programme

BUCS Rowing programme has events for beginners through to aspiring Olympians.

The BUCS Rowing Programme includes two major events - the 4s and 8s Head and the Regatta. Provision is also made for racing in small boats and indoor rowing in Term 1.

We have now confirmed the dates and venues for the 4s and 8s Head and Regatta for 2022 (see below)

Unfortunately, in 2021/22 year, there will be no Small Boats Head

University Indoor Rowing Series (UIRS) - Ran virtually in 2021-22 from 17 November - 24 November through BUCS Play Challenges.

Indoor Rowing 2022 Results

All results have been checked & verified by BUCS. Any results submitted outside the entry window (17 Nov 2021 – 24 Nov 2021) or entries that weren’t approved through BUCS Play have not been counted.

Small Boats Head - Will not run in 2021-22.

4s and 8s Head - 26 - 27 February 2022 - Hosted by Newcastle University, Tyne RC and Tyne United RC - Newcastle and Gateshead. All the information on the event can be found here.

Regatta - 30 April - 2 May 2022 - National Watersports Centre, Nottingham

November Update - 2021-22 Changes

Following a review of the entries into lightweight categories over many seasons and a consultation period with university rowing coaches and clubs, the BUCS Rowing Sport Advisory Group (SAG) put forward a proposal for a review of the lightweight categories offered within the BUCS Rowing Programme.

Whist the SAG is very keen to retain racing opportunities for lightweight rowers, including a performance pathway at Championship level, it is necessary to ensure that the offering is proportional to the numbers of unique individuals competing at lightweight level.

The proposal has been approved by the BUCS National Competitions Group to be implemented from the 2021/22 season.

The changes are as follows:

• Retain Championship 4-, 2x and 1x at Championship.

• Reclassify the lightweight 4x and 2- from Championship to Intermediate so that intermediate level lightweight rowers have sweep and sculling options and choice of bigger and smaller boats.

• Remove the Championship lightweight 8+ from the programme as entry numbers over the past few years have not warranted the continuation of this boat class.

December Update - 2021-22 Changes

We are pleased to announce that following a proposal by the BUCS Rowing Event Management Group, the BUCS National Competitions Group has approved the addition of a Beginner Double Scull (2x) for men and women to the BUCS Regatta Programme.

The addition of the Beginner 2x will help us continue to support the sculling pathway, and provide an additional opportunity, particularly for smaller university boat clubs.

The boat class will be added with effect from the BUCS 2022 Regatta. A schedule of events for the 3 day Regatta will be published in the new year.

The updated BUCS Rowing Regulations for the 2021 - 22 season are available here.
