With a boat made up of British university based athletes our women’s four’s dominated to win Gold on the final day of Rhine-Ruhr 2025.

GB Students women’s four’s made up of Sarah Marshall  - University of Oxford, Phoebe Snowden - The University of Law, Zoe Mccutcheon - Durham University and Holly You’d - Newcastle University were in prime position in Duisburg finishing first in their heat ahead by 3.35 seconds.

Lining up along the start line knowing another strong 2,000m will have them sat at the top on the world university rowing tree.

A strong start off the line from the girls saw them neck and neck with a few boats over the first couple of hundred meters and come the first 500m tied neck and neck with Germany with the Brits just edging the split by 0.66 seconds.

But with an eye on the gold spot GB Students turned up the heat and started to pull away and created a noticeable gap between themselves and Germany, ahead by 1.90seconds going through the half way mark.

Coming up to the home stretch the team would start to her the roar of the GB support and at this point behind almost a boat’s length ahead surely had the gold medal in the bag. Stroke by stroke went by and the team finally heard the beep of the finishing line meaning they had done, a gold medal secured for the women’s four.

All the girls finished their fours race and departed the water to get prepped for the next as they were all in the eights boat just a few races later with a chance at having two medals dropped around their neck come the end of the day.
