Ace The Start

The BUCS Tennis Sport Advisory Group (SAG) has launched Ace The Start, a voluntary campaign for universities to commit to consistent pre-match and match-day practices. The aim is to reduce wasted court time, improve the flow of fixtures, and enhance the overall student tennis experience.

Why Sign Up?

Signing up means your institution is leading the way in creating a better match-day experience for student tennis. By committing to simple, consistent pre-match and warm-up practices, you’ll help maximise court time, cut down on avoidable delays, and set a positive standard that benefits players, captains, and institutions alike.

Pre-Match

  • Sign up as an institution
  • Institutions educate players about five minutes warm up before matches
  • Home captains to inform opposition they have signed up to Ace The Start Campaign and either encourage opponents to sign up or agree that the principles of the scheme will be adhered to on the day

On Match day

  • Warm up per rubber to be limited to five minutes
  • Players should not leave the court after the warm up

Post Sign Up

  • You will be provided with promotional materials and digital assets to promote the scheme, show you've signed up and encourage others to do the same
  • You will also be provided with a link to track data regarding lateness and overrunning of fixtures, which should provide tangible evidence of the issues of lost court time, feedback as to whether the campaign has had an effect and quantify how much this issue may be affecting institutions across the UK

Benefits

  • Improve student experience
  • Reduce wasted court hours & therefore institution money
  • Reduce impact on other fixtures due to overrunning of matches
  • Reduce the number of incomplete fixtures
  • Allow for tracking of data for time of fixtures overrun/lost court time due to controllable factors
