If entries exceed this number priority will be given to:

  • One entry per institution per category (prior to allowing a second entry)
  • Championship categories (BUCS points eligible)

Institutions may submit a list of up to 200 reserve competitors (100 men and 100 women) which may be used for substitutions in advance of the competition starting.
Reserve competitors must be entered online via BUCS Play within the ‘Reserve list’ before the entry closing date. There is no cost for submitting competitors to the reserve list. Institutions are encouraged to fully utilise the submission of a reserve list.

Boat Licensing

Licenses are not required for competition on the River Tyne.

Boat Hire

There is the opportunity to hire boats from the local rowing clubs.

These will be available on a first come first served basis.

To hire a boat, or for further information, please contact Alex Leigh at Newcastle University Boat Club on [email protected].

Withdrawals & Substitutions

Institutions can only make substitutions to their boats from competitors included on the reserve lists or included in another crew. The reserve lists must be entered via BUCS Play before the entry closing date (Thursday 17 February 2022 at 23:59). Institutions cannot make substitutions directly via BUCS Play.

Upon close of entries, club representatives (Coach/Captain/President) will be required to register for the competition management system where they will be able to administer their crews and make substitutions.

Withdrawal of crews after the entry closing date (Thursday 17 February 2022) will still be charged the entry fee as per our Withdrawal Policy.

Substitutions and withdrawals on the day of the competition must be done at Registration by the institution rowing club captain or coach. Institutions should advise BUCS in advance if they intend to withdraw. Crews who do not withdraw, and do not compete at the event, will be classified as a ‘no-show’ and charged the entry fee and an additional £20 fine payable by the athletic union or students’ union (Reg 4.4).

If a crew wishes to withdraw they should complete a ‘scratch form’ at Registration a minimum of 30 minutes before the start of the division race start time. Failure to do so may result in the boat being classed as a ‘no-show’ and the additional fine being imposed (Reg 4.4).
