- All nominations must adhere to the word count specified in the criteria, anything exceeding the specified word count may not be taken into consideration.
Active University of the Year
This award celebrates a university that has actively improved and diversified the sporting and active wellbeing provision for their students and/or staff. They will be able to evidence the positive impact had on their university community via participation rates, breadth of provision and satisfaction data.
Institutions can no longer submit a nomination for this category if they won the previous year - you must wait until the following year.
AD Munrow Award
This award celebrates a remarkable individual who has made a significant contribution to BUCS and/or university sport and has been instrumental in supporting, growing and developing university sport and physical activity over a sustained period of time. (More than 5 years)
This award is not awarded every year, only if the nomination meets the criteria and is approved by the final judging panel.
An institution cannot nominate the same person two years in a row, if that person won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different person.
Chris Potter Student Volunteer Award
This award celebrates a student volunteer who has contributed to university and/or community work. This can include working in domestic or international competitions, or performance or participation driven projects and programmes.
This award is shortlisted using the regional structure, with winners from each region being reviewed and narrowed down to a final shortlist for the overall award.
A region cannot nominate the same volunteer two years in a row, if that volunteer won the award in the previous year (2025).
Club of the Year
This award celebrates a club that has demonstrated a commitment to development, engagement and support of members, that has resulted in improving the university sport experience.
An institution cannot nominate the same club two years in a row, if that club won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination for a different club. e.g. if your Men's Table Tennis 1st Team won the award in 2025, your institution can only submit a nomination for this category this year, if it is for a different team.
Coach of the Year
This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a coach who has ensured that their athletes/players’ mental and physical health remained a priority over the last year. It recognises everyone who has a coaching role; whether they are students, volunteers or paid coaching staff.
An institution cannot nominate the same coach two years in a row, if that coach won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different coach.
Dan Porter Award
This award celebrates an individual or group who have faced and overcome adversity or disadvantage to positively impact others within university sport and physical activity. The individual or group will have demonstrated a remarkable sense of character to achieve, motivate and inspire.
An institution cannot nominate the same person two years in a row, if that person won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different person.
Digital Engagement Award
This award recognises a sports department or institution who have been innovative in their use of digital channels to increase engagement with their audience. Big or small, the award will reflect a campaign, product or initiative which improves the Universities and Colleges Sport experience.
An institution cannot nominate the same project or programme two years in a row, if that project or programme won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different project or programme.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award
This award celebrates a BUCS member institution, or club/team, or individual that has led a successful campaign/programme/project that has enabled a more accessible, diverse and inclusive opportunity for their university community, focusing on engaging or supporting those who are underrepresented in the sector.
An institution cannot nominate the same project or programme two years in a row, if that project or programme won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different project or programme.
Sportsman of the Year
This award celebrates the domestic or international success of a student studying at a BUCS member institution.
An institution cannot nominate the same athlete two years in a row, if that athlete won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different athlete.
Sportswoman of the Year
This award celebrates the domestic or international success of a student studying at a BUCS member institution.

Team of the Year
This award celebrates the competitive achievement of a student team competing in a BUCS or EUSA competition that has excelled, broken records or otherwise achieved ground-breaking success within their sport.

Unsung Hero Award
This award celebrates a member of staff at a BUCS member institution who has worked tirelessly to support student sport at any level in the last year. They will have gone above and beyond their day role at their institution.
An institution cannot nominate the same staff member two years in a row, if that staff member won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different person.
Workforce Development Award
This award celebrates an institution that has created a new, or enhanced an existing, student leadership or workforce programme to support the personal and professional development and employability of their students. Sport and/or Physical Activity must be the focal point of the programme.
A nomination cannot be made for the same project or programme two years in a row, if they won the award in the previous year (2025). However, the same institution may submit a nomination two years in a row, but it must be for a different project or programme.
