Founded in 2016-17, and supported by the previous MCCU/UCCE programme, the Cricket National League contains the 8 best teams from across the UK. Unique to Cricket, some institutions field localised combined teams based on historic funding from the MCC/ECB creating University Centres of Cricketing Excellence (UCCE), as well as some of these being based at one institution.
Following the league season the top 4 teams compete in the National Championship knockout while the 8th placed team competes in a playoff to retain their status in the National League.
