With the 2021 World Summer and Winter University Games on the horizon, planning is underway with the appointment of the GB Students Chef De Mission.

BUCS is proud to announce their GB Students Chef De Mission roles for the 2021 and 2023 Games. Stew Fowlie will lead the team for the World University Summer Games and Chris Purdie for the Winter Games.

Stew Fowlie, the Chief Operating Officer at Scottish Student Sport, will return to his role after the successful games in Naples, Italy last year. 

Fowlie has attended the last five University Summer Games. He will lead the students in this role for the 2021 Summer Games in China, and 2023 in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Taking a more hands-on approach in the pre-planning, Fowlie is proud to be leading the team to the second-largest multi-sports event in the world.

‘Representative sport is a very special experience and one which will be treasured by the incredible athletes and staff. I’m looking forward to helping shape their journey.’ 

Chris Purdie, from the University of Stirling, is stepping up from his role as Deputy Chef De Mission at the 2019 Winter Games. 

This time, he will lead the GB Students Winter competitors to Lucerne, Switzerland in 2021 returning for the 2023 Games in Lake Placid, USA.

With over 2,500 students expected to compete, Purdie, is honoured by his new appointment. 

“I am extremely proud to be leading a team of fantastic athletes and support staff to the Winter Games and am excited to be part of one of the best sporting events in the World’ 

The Summer and Winter World University Games are two of the biggest events multi-sport on the international sporting stage.

BUCS will begin the selection process for GB Students athletes and recruit further support staff as the year progresses.
