Following strong interest from universities across England, the institutions selected to take part in the pilot are:
- Loughborough University
- Northumbria University
- University of Manchester
- University of Surrey
The BUCS x RunTogether pilot will support institutions to grow fun, friendly, safe, and inclusive recreational running opportunities on campus. Through the programme, students and staff will be upskilled as qualified Run Leaders, helping to deliver regular social running sessions and create welcoming communities for runners of all abilities.
This exciting partnership with England Athletics reflects a shared commitment to increasing participation, improving wellbeing, and creating stronger student communities through movement and connection.
Speaking about the impact of the programme, Molly Caitlin, Sport Participation Officer at the University of Surrey, said: "Receiving this funding will transform our recreational running offer by placing equal emphasis on community and physical activity. Upskilling our Run and Brew Crew, in the Running and Athletics Club, as qualified run leaders will ensure students feel supported to develop their running ability in a safe and inclusive environment. By starting sessions at the library and finishing at a local coffee shop, we will foster a strong sense of belonging, connection, and wellbeing across the students who are not yet part of the TeamSurrey BUCS teams but want to feel part of the sporting community."
Rosa from the University of Manchester / Run Wild, added: "Being part of this pilot and the support from BUCS x Run Together in the process, will allow Run Wild to provide a safer running environment where attendees and their progression in running can be tracked. It will also expand the club and enable Run Wild to offer a better package to beginner runners."
