Wednesday delivered another packed day of learning, networking and thought-provoking discussions at BUCS Conference.

The day began with breakfast before delegates gathered for the official welcome, setting the tone for a programme focused on leadership, innovation and the impact of sport across higher education.

A major highlight of the morning was the inspiring keynote from Olympian, Commonwealth medallist and Star of the BBC, Montell Douglas. Drawing on her remarkable sporting career and experiences competing at the highest level, Montell shared powerful insights into resilience, determination and high performance.

The annual Hustings followed with nine Sabbatical Officers standing for election for the Student Director/Board Trustee and Student Officer positions before the first networking opportunity of the day.

The morning breakout sessions offered a range of valuable discussions. Student Officers came together for their network meeting, while other sessions explored the future lifestyle and physical activity habits of university students, demonstrated how sport contributes to wider university success, and examined how digital innovation can improve student engagement and participation.

Following lunch, BUCS Chair Professor Amanda Broderick, delivered the afternoon keynote on the value of sport in higher education before delegates attended a further programme of breakout sessions covering topics including engaging senior leaders, embedding anti-racist practices following the launch of the BUCS Anti-Racist Charter and Toolkit yesterday, demonstrating the relationship between sport and academic performance, strengthening advocacy through strategic storytelling, and maximising sports content to increase engagement.

The afternoon concluded with refreshments before delegates returned to the main theatre for Will Roberts CEO Update, providing an overview of the latest developments across BUCS. Delegates also had the opportunity to attend the LGBTQ+ Community Meet Up, which encouraged conversations around inclusion, shared experiences and collaboration within university sport.

The day will end with the ever-popular quiz night hosted by Outgoing, where everyone can enjoy some friendly competition in a relaxed and social atmosphere.
