BUDS returns to Hillend for the first dryslope event of the season.

Event Guide

Registration

Registration will take place at the BUCS Office. This will be located next to the café, and will be signposted.

Registration will open from 07:30-08:30. Please note that captains will need to register their team, rather than all individuals registering themselves.

Please ensure students bring a valid form of student ID. This will be needed to collect a bib.

Accepted Entries and Reserves

Due to a very high number of entries, we have unfortunately had to restrict entries in the Men's and Women's Ski Race. This has been done in the fairest way possible, and equally across institutions. The reserve list (for this event only) can be found in the accepted entries tab. In the event of withdrawals, BUCS will allocate the available space to the person with the highest priority. Please note, if you have not been accepted into the ski race, you are still eligible to race in the ski duals.

BUCS apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Timetable

Timetable is subject to change and athletes should keep checking the website and listening out for announcements at the venue.

Captain's Meeting

The Captain’s Meeting is compulsory.

Any universities not represented will be fined £50.

Parking

Due to ongoing construction work, there will be no overflow car park or car park at the main road. Coaches carrying students will need to drop off and then park elsewhere for the day.

The main car park can usually accommodate 100 cars, but less spaces will be available due to coaches dropping off and circulating. Please note all vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.

Food and Drink

The venue café will be open to all staff and competitors, serving hot and cold food throughout the day. The café will be open from 08:00 to 20:30.

Alcohol and Drugs

Drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited on the premises. Security will be searching people and bags at the entrance – anyone found to be in possession of any prohibited items will be refused entry and disqualified.

As can be seen in Reg 5.1.2 below, there will be a zero tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol.

REG 5.1.2 The consumption of alcohol or recreational drugs (in addition to substances covered under REG 4.5) by competitors will not be tolerated. Competitors at any BUCS event or fixture found to be consuming such substances will be automatically disqualified and may face further disciplinary action under this regulation.

Presentations

There will be multiple prize giving ceremonies throughout the day, following each of the competitions.

The freestyle prize giving is scheduled to take place at 16:00 at Big Air.

The racing prize giving is scheduled to take place at 19:30 on the Main Slope.

Clothing and Equipment

All competitors must wear helmets. These must be secured and fastened correctly. BUCS reserves the right to disqualify athletes who do not wear long sleeves and who’s helmet is not done up correctly. Alongside this, mounted cameras and Go Pros will not be allowed during competition. BUCS strongly advises against mounts of any description on any helmets.

Lift Use

Race - Only competitors wearing their bibs and ski equipment will be able to use the lift. For ski race inspection females will go first. Once inspection is shut, we will allow individuals onto the lift based on the letter of their university i.e we will name call universities and ask them to make their way to the top of the slope, in order. This is to ensure smooth access to the start area and for competitions to run on time.

Freestyle – Competitors will collect their bibs at the top. After the first round of freestyle, every competitor must be wearing a bib to be allowed up on the lift.

Duals

Please note, ski duals teams must have five competitors and at least one team member of the opposite gender to the rest, as per the regulation below:

SNW 7.1.1 Ski dual teams must consist of five competitors with at least one of the opposite gender to the rest.

Snowboard duals teams must contain four competitors, and can be made up of any gender split.

Behavioural Warning

Upon entry all competitors will be searched by security along with their bags.
All alcohol found upon a person entering the premises will be confiscated permanently.

Staff - All our volunteers and staff will be treated with respect at all times. If this respect is not seen, BUCS reserve the right to remove this person from the premises. Competitors are subject to the BUCS rules and regulations, whereby should you be in violation of the BUCS rules you will be sanctioned.

Minute's Silence

Due to the competition falling on Remembrance Day, a minute’s silence will be held at 11:00. This will be announced over the PA system in advance, and all racing/competing will stop momentarily. Please be respectful of this and behave accordingly.

BUCS Points

BUCS points will be allocated for the top 4 finshers in each elite race (novice competitions are not eligible for BUCS Points) and duals competitions. Points will be allocated in the following format - 1st = 12, 2nd = 8, 3rd = 6, 4th = 4.

Individuals will automatically be entered into the team competitions.

  • Men’s Overall Team – the team placing shall be determined by the highest score by elite competitors.
  • Women’s Overall Team – the team placing shall be determined by the highest score by elite competitors.
  • Team points will be allocated in the following format - 1st = 20, 2nd = 14, 3rd = 10, 4th = 7, 5th = 5, 6th = 3, 7th = 2, 8th = 1

An individual/team must have beaten another individual/team to score BUCS points (i.e. if 3 individuals finish an event, only 2 will score BUCS points)

Drone Policy

The use of drones at BUCS events is strictly prohibited. The only permissible use of drones will be with the permission of BUCS for professional companies with appropriate licenses, insurance, risk assessments and in line with all the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
