ENTRY COSTS
£228 per team [Stage 1]
STAGED ENTRY
This competition operates a staged entry process. Entries received before the Stage 1 entry closing date (Thursday 20 April 2023) will be accepted where the competition allows. If the competition allows stage 2 will open with a closing date of Thursday 27 April 2023. Please note stage 2 will only open if the competition allows after the closing date for stage 1. Priority will remain with the entries received before the Stage 1 entry closing date. Entries received after the Stage 1 entry closing date, if accepted into the competition, will be charged an additional 20% fee.
WITHDRAWALS
After the entry deadline, BUCS will fine £100 for every planned fixture missed.
Fines for Teams withdrawing due to injury on the day will be at the discretion of the organisers.
Entry Allowance
ENTRY ALLOWANCE
Institutions are only allowed to enter one team into each competition. Players are not allowed to play in both the Championship and the Trophy competitions. The Championship is for first teams only.
Women’s Championship
This tournament is open to first teams only from the BUCS Premier (National) and Premier (North/South) leagues, plus any winning 1st teams in Tier 1. Should you currently be playing in Tier 1A, please enter into the trophy sevens competition and we will automatically promote you into the Championship sevens competition should you win the league. All league winners will be contacted. The maximum number of teams in this competition will be 20 teams. If this competition reaches capacity, the highest ranked teams from finishing positions in the 2022-23 season will be selected
Each team can have a maximum of 12 players in a squad and a minimum of 8 players.
Confirmed entries will be published when entries close and displayed on the BUCS Rugby Sevens Championship Event Page.
Men’s Championship
This tournament is open to first teams only from the BUCS Super Rugby and Premier (North/South) 1 leagues.
The maximum number of teams in this competition will be 20 teams. If this competition reaches capacity, the highest ranked teams from finishing positions in the 2022-23 season will be selected.
Each team can have a maximum of 12 players in a squad and a minimum of 8 players.
Confirmed entries will be published when entries close and displayed on the BUCS Rugby Sevens Championship Event Page.
Entry Process
ENTRY PROCESS
Entries can only be submitted on BUCS Play, our online entry system. Please speak to your Athletic Union as they will need to submit your entry on this system and it is their responsibility to manage the whole entry process.
To apply for this competition:
- Entries will need to be submitted via the team entries section of our online entry system, BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
- Please speak to your Institution Administrator as they will need to submit your entry.
- A Team Captain must be selected as part of the team before entries close.
- Competitors then need to apply for their respective team. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
No entries will be accepted after the closing date under any circumstances, including entries on the day.

BUCS Points available for this competition can be found in Appendix 1.
Qualification for European University Championships
This event will be used as qualification for European University Games 2024. The top 4 teams will automatically. The qualified teams will have to confirm their interest in attendance within 7 days of event completion with permission from their institution.
The qualification for the European University Championships 2023 is through the BUCS Rugby 7’s National Championships that took place 2022 and the institutions who have qualified have been contacted.

Rules & Regulations
