Substitutions/ Reserves & Withdrawals
Please note a change to the 'Team' substitution policy below
Substitutions will only be permitted in the Individual Points races, the Team Pursuit races, and the Team Sprint races. The following shall apply in regard to who shall be an eligible substitute and when substitutions can be made:
Individual Points races: Any individual entered into another event at the Championships who meets the gender eligibility criteria.
Team Pursuit and Team Sprint races: Any individual who has entered the relevant event (Female Team Pursuit, Female Team Sprint, Open Team Pursuit, or Open Team Sprint) via BUCS Play shall be eligible to act as a substitute for their institution. There is no limit to the number of individuals an institution can have entered for each team, therefore any rider who may be required as a substitute should ensure they are entered.
If an institution wishes to make a substitution after the heats have finished, the substitution may only be made to the institution’s lowest-ranked team, from which riders may then be promoted to higher-ranked teams (for example, if a 1st team member is withdrawn - substitute enters 3rd team, 3rd team member promoted to 2nd team, 2nd team member promoted to 1st team).
Once a rider has competed, they are still eligible to be moved up to a higher-ranked team (for example, from Team 2 to Team 1); however, a rider who has competed for a higher-ranked team may not subsequently move down to a lower-ranked team (such as from Team 1 to Team 2). Each rider is permitted to change teams only once during the competition and may not compete for more than one team within the same stage (Heat or Final)
Withdrawals
Prior to entries closing, withdrawals can be made free of charge. After the IA deadline has passed (Thursday 12th February 2026), no refunds will be given for withdrawals. All withdrawals must be sent to your institution and emailed to Joe O’Loughlin
Please see REG 7.9 for our full withdrawal policy

Para Sport
Events with Provision for Para-Cyclists
With the support of British Cycling, BUCS offers entries for:
Female: 200m Sprint, 500m Time Trial and 3000m Individual Pursuit.
Open: 200m Sprint, 1km Time Trial and 4000m Individual Pursuit.
How it Will Work:
Para-Cycling categories at our events will follow IPC Regulations and are open to those who are classified either with locomotive or learning disabilities. There will be separate Female and Open competitions.
All para-cyclists are given a disability classification to allow them to compete. Para-cyclists of all eligible classifications will compete alongside each other and shall be ranked on a multi-classification basis using the UCI factoring system. If there are less than four para-cyclists entered in a category, they shall compete alongside the non-disabled cyclists but results for eligible para-cyclists shall be extracted.
Para Guest Entries
BUCS will consider accepting guest entries from non-BUCS member institutions and non-student riders for the Para disciplines at the Championships. Riders wishing to enter as a guest should contact Joe O'Loughlin and apply for the event via BUCS Play. This will be taking as an expression of interest, and any applicants will be contacted after entries close to confirm whether they will be given a place at the event or not.
For information about how to enter as a Guest please refer to this help guide.
