National League

Hockey is one of BUCS league and knockout sports which has a 9-team National League sitting at the top of the Men’s and Women’s programme, ensuring the best teams from the programme compete in high quality matches every week.

With the first season taking place in 2019-20, both Men’s and Women’s Premier (National) leagues feature 9 teams with teams playing each other once either home or away with the top placed team crowned league winners.

Following the league season, the top 6 teams will progress to the National Championship, while teams placed 7-9 will compete in the National Vase. At the end of the season the team finishing in 9th place will be automatically relegated to Premier (North/South) and the tea, in 8th place competing in a playoff to fight for their spot.

The calendars are scheduled carefully with collaboration from GB Hockey to ensure the BUCS programme can act as a pathway to international representation, with players frequently progressing to Elite Development Programme squads as well as competing in the high-level domestic competitions.
