We are pleased to share the Rugby League Impact Report for 2022-23. Showcasing the impact this sport specific resource has had during its first academic season.

In 2022, the RFL committed to providing resource to support the development and growth of rugby league within the higher education sector. The role of Rugby League Coordinator was therefore embedded into BUCS with three key aims:

  1. To provide direct support to the teams currently competing

  1. To increase participation

  1. To raise the profile of the sport across the sector

Throughout the 2022-23 BUCS season, there were several areas of development which contributed to the success of this partnership; including the revival of the Rugby League 9s event and reviewing the programmes league structure.

Maz Veater, BUCS Rugby League Coordinator, commented: “I feel privileged to have been entrusted with this role, and am proud to have achieved all the objectives set out by both BUCS and the RFL for the 2022-23 academic year. I have loved getting stuck into everything that university rugby league has to offer, and I’m looking forward to being able to do even more in the 2023-24 season.”

Andrea Murray, RFL National Education Manager, added: “The additional resource provided by Maz, and the role of Rugby League Coordinator, has had an undeniably positive impact upon the sport in higher education. The RFL are hugely grateful to BUCS for supporting the appointment and delivery of the role.”
