Deep Dish Competitions

If you are not playing on Thursday 4th of June in BUCS, you have the option to play in either (can’t play both!) the Mixed 2’s King/Queen of the Court (KQOTC) or Mixed 4’s. They will both be half day tournaments from 9:30am - 1pm. These are classed as Deep Dish Events, so you do not need to play with your university. Enter at the info point on Wednesday 3rd of June from 11am. Entries close at 6pm.

Mixed King/Queen of the Court:

  • £15 entry
  • Maximum 45 teams entry capacity

Mixed 4’s:

  • £40 entry
  • Maximum 6 players per team
  • Minimum of 2 people per gender on the court at any one time
  • Maximum 16 teams entry capacity

Entry Allowance

Teams should submit their pairs into the relevant competition (Championship, Trophy or Shield) on BUCS Play, but should note that these may be moved at the organisers discretion. Each institution will be limited to the following guaranteed entries:

  • 1 guaranteed male and 1 guaranteed female pair in the Championship.
  • 2 guaranteed male and 2 guaranteed female pairs in the Trophy.
  • 2 guaranteed male and 2 guaranteed female pairs in the Shield.

Institutions are able to enter more than the above maximum allocations, however in the event of oversubscription they will be removed first. Institution Administrators must first submit a team, before competitors will then be able to join their team. Instructions on how to enter and join a team are below in the entry process tab.

Please note, only one pair per institution will be permitted in the Championship competition, but there may be multiple pairs allocated to the Trophy and/or Shield competitions. Similarly, not all 1st teams will necessarily be placed in the Championship.

Should any of the competitions be oversubscribed, any entries not originally allocated a space will be added to a ranked reserve list so that in the case of the complete withdrawal of an entry the space can be re-allocated.

Substitutions

Up until Thursday 28th of May 2026, institutions can also request to make any substitutions by emailing Chris Lamb. From Friday 29th of May 2026 onwards, institutions will only be able to make substitutions in the case of a NEW injury evidenced by a doctor’s note or equivalent up until registration on the day.

Any substitute must be a player in another entry or the “Reserve list” registered on BUCS Play. Please note, only players from lower ranked teams can be pushed up to replace withdrawals from higher ranked teams, or reserves can be used instead. Players from higher ranked teams cannot be pushed down to lower ranked teams. If you have any questions or queries on substitutions, please email Chris Lamb.

If there are player withdrawals or substitutions made, the tournament ranking will not be redrawn.

Entry Process

To apply for this competition:

  1. Entries will need to be submitted via the team entries section of our online entry system, BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Please speak to your Institution Administrator as they will need to enter the correct number of teams for you.
  3. Competitors then need to apply for the respective event. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  4. Institution Administrators must assign competitors to the correct team during the approval process. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)

When joining the relevant team, each competitor entering will be requested to provide information that can be used to assist with the overall competition ranking for that pair. Competitors are advised to provide:

  • UKBT ranking/highest finishes.
  • Beach Volleyball experience and ability of each pair (both as an individual and as a pair) e.g. ‘Internationally ranked athletes, beginner/recreational players, former winners etc’.
  • There will also be an opportunity to indicate the preferred level of competition for each pair: Championship/Trophy/Shield.

Any data will be handled in accordance with BUCS Privacy Policy

Reserve List

When making entries, individuals can also enter on BUCS Play any reserves they may wish to use should any of their originally entered individuals become unavailable. These individuals should be entered on the “Reserve List” on BUCS Play. The entry process for reserves follows our individual entry pathway, which is as follows:

  1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)

Coaches Registration

Coaches attending the Beach Volleyball Championships should be registered on BUCS Play through their paired entry. For each pair that is entered, up to two coaches can be declared when submitting their BUCS Play entry (This is done when an individual joins their pair/team on BUCS Play).

The BUCS Sport Specific Regulations for coaching at Beach Volleyball (BVB 6) follows the principles and procedures applied in FIVB Specific Regulations.

Rules & Regulations

The Beach Volleyball regulations can be found here.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals before the IA Approval Deadline of 21 May 2026 at 23:59pm will not be charged the entry fee. Withdrawals after the entry closing date of 21 May 2026 at 23:59pm will still be charged the entry fee. Institutions should advise of any withdrawals so that where possible these spaces can be re-allocated if there are any entries on a reserve list. Withdrawals should be sent via email to Chris Lamb.

Any teams who do not attend the Technical Meeting on the morning of Wednesday 3 June 2026 will be fined £20. Any teams who do not attend the competition without withdrawing in advance will be fined £50 as well as still being charged the entry fee.

Please see REG 7.9 for our withdrawal policy.
