Entry Costs

£65 per competitor (British Triathlon Members)

£67 per competitor (Non-British Triathlon Members 24 and Under) * 

£73 per competitor (Non-British Triathlon Members 25 and Over) ** 

British Triathlon Race Passes are required for all non-members to compete. This is included in the respective entry fee. 

*£2 race pass for under 25’s as of 31 December 2025 

**£8 race pass fee for participants 25 and over as of 31 December 2025

Staged Entry

Should the competition allow more entries a Stage 2 Entry window will open. Priority will remain with the entries received before the Stage 1 entry closing date. Entries received in the Stage 2 window and accepted into the competition, will be charged an additional 20% fee.

Entry Process

Sprint Triathlon:

To apply for the competition all eligible competitors must follow these steps: 

  1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here
  1. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here
  1. BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list

Mixed Relay:

To apply for this competition: 

  1. Entries will need to be submitted via the team entries section of our online entry system, BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here
  1. Please speak to your Institution Administrator as they will need to enter the correct number of teams for you. 
  1. Competitors then need to apply for the respective event. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here
  1. Institution Administrators must assign competitors to the correct team during the approval process. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here

Entry Allowance

Sprint Triathlon:

The capacity for this event is 600 competitors.

Mixed Relay:

Institutions can enter as many teams as they like for the Mixed Relay. The team must comprise of two females and two who meet the criteria of an ‘Open’ athlete. For clarity the definitions of ‘female’ and ‘open’ please refer to British Triathlons Transgender Policy HERE.

Competition Format and Course Description

The BUCS Sprint Triathlon will comprise of:

400m Swim – 16 lengths of 25m swimming pool

23km Bike – This is a 1 lap course of the local area. All turns are left turns only. A map of the course can be found HERE.

5km Run – The run section is 3 laps on a flat, traffic free route. There is a section of approx. 500 metres per lap on grass. A copy of the route is available HERE.

The BUCS Mixed Relay will comprise of:

150m Swim – 6 lengths of 25m swimming pool

7km Bike – This is a fast and flat 1 lap course of all left turns. A cope of the route can be found HERE.

1.67km Run - A flat and traffic free 1 lap course. A copy of the route can be found HERE.

Events and BUCS Points Available

Please see Appendix 1 and Reg 6 for the BUCS Points available at this event.

  • Individual (Open and Women’s)
  • Para Individual* (Open and Women’s)
  • Team Relay (Mixed)
  • Open Overall Team – The team placing shall be determined by the fastest cumulative time for three open athletes from the same institution.
  • Women’s Overall Team – The team placing shall be determined by the fastest cumulative time for three female athletes from the same institution.

Only one team per university per team competition will be awarded BUCS points.

*Para-athletes of all eligible classifications compete alongside non-disabled athletes but results for eligible para-athletes are extracted and ranked separately on a multi-classification basis using a factoring system.

Please note that BUCS points will not be allocated where the minimum number of competitors has not been reached, and where there are not enough individual scores to extract a team score. Furthermore, an individual/team must have beaten another individual/team to score BUCS points (i.e. if 3 individuals finish an event, only 2 will score BUCS points)

Athletes start from 8am in waves of 70 swimmers. These are virtual waves designed to minimise queuing time in the pool. In practice it’s a continuous start as people step off the timing mat. Race briefings will be repeated outside the pool, next to transition, for each subsequent wave.

Mixed Relay Starts          - Sunday 3 May 14:30

Withdrawals

To withdraw, please contact your institution administrator who should contact the event lead.

The entry fee will not be charged for entries withdrawn prior to the entry deadline, Once the closing date has passed, entry fees will be charged for any withdrawals following Reg 7.9.

Times cannot be changed after the entry deadline, therefore please enter your time carefully.

Photography and Videography

Anyone wishing to take photos or video at this event must complete the BUCS Media Accreditation Form prior to the event. 

BUCS reserves the right to prohibit photography equipment being used at a BUCS event. BUCS reserves the right to request that the individual ceases to take photographs, deletes any images and, if considered necessary, leaves the venue.
