Registration

Competitors must register at the BUCS desk prior to competing. Competitors are required to provide a valid student identification card at registration to confirm their identity and eligibility.

Registration will be inside the main hall at David Ross Sports Village and will open at 11am on Friday for doubles only. Registration will re-open at 8am on Saturday, for competitors in the singles event. Players do not need to register on Sunday.

Competitors must have been registered before their first match. Competitors who do not register, and do not show for their first match, will be withdrawn & issued a ‘no-show fine’ as detailed below.

SCHEDULE

Competitors are to be ready to play 30 minutes before their start time. All times are subject to change, pending any delays etc. Competitors are encouraged to check their specific start time when registering at the venue. Due to the large scale of the competition, matches may start immediately once the previous match has been completed. Competitors must be ready to take to the court as soon as the previous match finishes.

The referee and tournament director have the right to move group matches forward where they see fit.

Competitors will be given three calls to come to their table. Failure to turn up from their match will result in them being scratched from the competition.

NOTE: Everyone that does not go through to the knockout stages goes straight into the Plate competition.

Practice Tables

There are no designated practice tables for this year’s event, in order to be able to accept all participants. However, competitors are able to practice on any tables that do not have ‘no practice signs’. Competitors should listen out for further announcements throughout the event for any additional practice tables.

The groups will be displayed on the wall in David Ross, but all results will be uploaded online only, to this event page, in a tab above. The knockout draw will also be displayed on the wall, with results then continuing to be uploaded online. If you have any questions about this, please see Chris Lamb on the day.

Withdrawals

Competitors withdrawing during the competition must inform the Tournament Referee, stating their reason for withdrawal. Competitors must also inform their institution they have withdrawn from the competition.

Competitors will receive a £50 ‘no-show fine’, payable alongside your entry fee by the competitor’s athletic union or students union, for any of the following infringements:

  • Withdrawing from the event after 17:00pm on Tuesday 14th November 2023
  • Withdrawing from the event on the day without fulfilling any of their fixtures
  • Not registering on the day of the event (i.e., a no-show)

It has been confirmed by the Table Tennis SAG that all carding from this event will be sent to competitors home nations governing body to be placed on their sanction list. Competitors should be aware of this when playing.

Photography & Videography

Anyone wishing to take photos or video at this event must complete the BUCS Media Accreditation Form prior to the event.

To promote this event, please tag in our Instagram account @bucssport when posting photos. By doing so you grant permission for BUCS to share this across our social media platforms.

Parking

Parking spaces are limited. Sharing of cars is recommended.

Parking restrictions on campus apply Monday-Friday and all visitors will be required to display a ticket from the machine or alternatively make use of the RingGo app service – note, visitors of the David Ross Sports Village can make use of 2 hours free parking with a ticket or via the app.

There are no parking charges over the weekend but please ensure you park in an appropriately marked bays only, adhering to any guidance displayed. No parking is permitted on grassed areas. A map of campus can be found here with parking options immediately surrounding the David Ross Sports Village, on Beeston Lane and as well as the following halls of residences which are in close proximity to the sports village: Nightingale Hall, Bowling Green, Ancaster Hall, Sherwood Hall and Rutland Hall.

BUCS is not responsible for parking at the venue. Competitors are asked if possible to not use David Ross Sports Village Car Park and make use of the parking options immediately surrounding David Ross above.

Food & Drink

Competitors are responsible for providing their own food and drink during the event, however the café within the David Ross Sports Village will be open each day, providing a variety of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks.

All competitors and spectators have a responsibility to keep the venue and competition areas clean and tidy, and to use the bins provided in and around the venue.

Food and drink are not permitted within the main sports hall, except for bottled sports drinks or water.

Clothing

As previously communicated, competitor clothing should have at a minimum the competitor’s last name on the back of their shirt. If your competition clothing does not have your name on, there will be the provision to pin this on at registration. Doubles pairings are required to wear matching coloured clothing during matches where possible.

Regulation clothing should be worn during matches, including clean rubber or similar soled footwear (non-marking). Competitors should not wear white clothing.

Sustainability

The sustainability of our event matters to us and we are taking the following positive steps to manage our environmental impact:

  • All staff and volunteers are encouraged to travel to the event via public transport.
  • We have used local suppliers where possible.
  • Event programmes are all online, minimising paper use.
  • We will print on demand merchandise (if applicable)

How can you help at this event? Here’s some ideas:

  • Be self-sufficient by using refillable bottles and coffee cups to reduce waste.
  • Travel smarter – as a team on a minibus, cycle or use public transport.
