Competition Format

Men Singles and Women Singles competitions are run using a group stage followed by a knockout stage. All players will either progress to the championship or plate knock out stage after the initial groups stage.

Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles competitions are run using a straight knockout stage.

Competitions take place on both days.

Specific competition start times for all competitions will be published in the event guide.

Entry Allowance

Each institution is allowed four guaranteed entries into MS and WS, and two guaranteed entries in each MD, WD and XD competitions.

Each institution may submit an additional 10 non-guaranteed entries per competition.

Non-guaranteed entries may be accepted for each competition following the entry closing date if the competition allows. Should the event reach capacity BUCS may need to restrict the number of entries per institution. Therefore when submitting entries on BUCS Play, entries should be ranked in order of preference of entry before being submitted. Should BUCS need to restrict per this will be done equally across instituions.

Consultation and seeding of the additional entries accepted into the competition will be taken with the BUCS Table Tennis Sport Advisory Group (SAG).

Non-guaranteed entries will only be charged an entry fee if they are accepted into the competition.

All doubles entries MUST be ranked in order and the same as their partner i.e. if a university has 2 women's doubles pairs, these must be ranked 1, 1 & 2, 2, in their correct pairings.

Failure to rank/rank players properly causes a lot of issues with pre-event admin in terms of seeding & scheduling. If doubles players aren't ranked by IA's they will not be included in the competition.

BUCS Points

The following BUCS points and medals are available in men’s singles (MS), women’s singles (WS), men’s doubles (MD), women’s doubles (WD) and mixed doubles (XD).

  • 1st:12 points and gold medal
  • 2nd: 8 points and silver medal
  • 3rd: 5 points (for both losing semi-finalists) and bronze medal

No overall team points are available due to there being a league programme.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals must be made in writing by the athletic union or students’ union and e-mailed to Luke Gallen, the BUCS Event Manager.

Withdrawals after the IA Approval closing date (Thursday 27 October 2022) will still be charged the entry fee.

Individuals who withdraw after 5pm on Wednesday 16 November 2022 or who fail to register on the morning of the event will be charged an additional £50 fine.
