Schedule Information

Competitors are to be ready to play 30 minutes before their start time. These start times may change. Competitors are encouraged to check their specific start time when registering at the venue.

Men’s Singles (MS) – Groups 1-32 - Saturday 19 November - From 9:00 onwards

Women’s Singles (WS) - Saturday 19 November - From 10:00 onwards

Men’s Singles (MS) – Groups 33-64 - Saturday 19 November - From 12:30 onwards

  • Men’s Singles Groups 1-32 should be registered by 08:15 to be ready to start promptly at 09:00.
  • Women’s Singles Groups should be at the venue and registered by 10:00.
  • Men’s Singles Groups 33-65 need to be at the venue and registered by 12:30.
  • Doubles will follow the singles on Saturday 19 November. Competitors who are just playing doubles should be in the venue from 14:30 on Saturday afternoon.

Competitors should be aware matches could start at least 30 minutes before the advertised time. Due to the large scale of the competition, matches may start immediately once the previous match has been completed. Competitors must be ready to take to the court as soon as the previous match finishes.

The referee and tournament director have the right to move group matches forward where they see fit.

Competitors will be called twice to their table. Failure to turn up from their match will result in them being scratched from the competition.

Registration

Competitors should allow time to register before competing and are encouraged to register as soon as they arrive at the venue.

Competitors are required to provide a valid student identification card at registration to confirm their identity and eligibility. Registration will be inside the main hall in the David Ross Sports Village from 08:00 on Saturday 19 November.

Competitors must register before their first match. Competitors who do not register, and do not show for their first match, will be withdrawn & issued a ‘no-show fine’ as detailed in our entry information & withdrawal policy.

Withdrawals

Competitors withdrawing during the competition must inform the Tournament Referee, stating their reason for withdrawal. Competitors must also inform their institution they have withdrawn from the competition.

Competitors who do not withdraw, and do not fulfil a match fixture, will be classified as a ‘no-show’ and charged an additional £50 fine payable by the athletic union or students’ union.

Individuals who withdraw after 17:00 on Tuesday 15 November 2022 or who fail to register on the morning of the event will be charged an additional £50 fine.

Competitors who withdraw after the University IA approval Deadline (3 November 2022) will still be charged the entry fee for the competition.

Reserve List

Due to the high amount of entries this year, we have had to restrict entries as per our entry information.

Withdrawals from the same university get the priority on reserves based on their ranking list provided, the remaining will be selected at random. Any withdrawals after 17:00 Tuesday 15 November will not be replaced by reserves due to the admin involved so close to the event and so the finalised draws can be published.

Draws

The draws for the event will be published on this page on Wednesday 16 November 2022.

Finals

All finals will take place on Sunday 21 November. Competitors not competing in the finals are encouraged to stay and watch the action and support the competition. The finals are estimated to finish by 18:00.

The presentation of trophies and medals will take place following the conclusion of the finals.

Timings are subject to change.

Clothing

Regulation clothing should be worn during matches, including clean rubber or similar soled footwear (non-marking).

Doubles pairings are required to wear matching coloured clothing during matches.

Competitors should not wear white clothing.

Plate Competition

A Plate competition will take place from 11:00 on Sunday 20 November for competitors who finished third in their group as part of the MS and WS competitions.

Competitors who finished third or fourth in their group should register their interest at the BUCS event table for the plate competition.

These competitions are not eligible for BUCS points or medals. More information will be available at Event Control in the main sports hall.

Umpiring

To assist with the running of the competitions; competitors may be requested to umpire matches in the first rounds of the men’s and women’s singles. Cooperation with the officials is expected

Practice Tables

There will be 4 x practice tables will be positioned in the top right corner of the hall as you enter the sports hall.

Competitors must not practice on the competition tables once the event has started unless advised by the top table.

Equipment

Competitors must provide their own equipment. BUCS will provide table tennis balls. BUCS cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to an individual’s possessions left in the venue.

Bribar Table Tennis will be providing all tables and equipment, and the official table tennis ball. BUCS are grateful for Bribar Table Tennis’ support of this event.

Food & Drink

Competitors are responsible for providing their own food and drink. The café within the David Ross Sports Village will be open each day along with a food van outside the David Ross Sports Village.

All competitors and spectators have a responsibility to keep the venue and competition areas clean and tidy, and to use the bins provided.

Food and drink is not allowed within the main sports hall, except for bottled sports drinks or water.

Parking

Parking restrictions on campus apply Monday-Friday and all visitors will be required to display a ticket from the machine or alternatively make use of our RingGo app service – note, visitors of the David Ross Sports Village can make use of 2 hours free parking with a ticket or via the app. There are no parking charges over the weekend but please do park in an appropriately marked bay only and adhere to any guidance displayed.  No parking is permitted on grassed areas. A map of campus can be found attached with parking options immediately surrounding the David Ross Sports Village, on Beeston Lane and as well as the following halls of residences which are in close proximity to the sports village: Nightingale Hall, Bowling Green, Ancaster Hall, Sherwood Hall and Rutland Hall.

Parking spaces are limited. Sharing of cars is recommended.

BUCS is not responsible for parking at the venue.
