Entry Opening Date

Tuesday 7 th December 2021

Entry Closing Date

Tuesday 29 March 2022 at 11:59pm - Student/ Competitor Deadline (Students/ Competitors must apply by this deadline)

Thursday 31 March 2022 at 11:59pm - Institution Administrator Approval Deadline (Institutional Administrators are given 48 hours after the student/ competitor deadline to approve entries)

Note: Only the Skipper must enter the Yachting Championships event on BUCS Play. All other crew members must add themselves to their institutions Competitors and Reserves List.

Entry Costs

Entry fee per mixed team: £265 (Payable to BUCS)

Entry Charter fee per mixed team: £1909 (Payable to Fairview)

Berthing in for one night in Cowes Yacht Haven: £44.44 (Payable to Cowes Yacht Haven)

Entry Allowance

This event is limited to a capacity of 15 boats across all institutions. Entries will be allocated on a first come first served basis, from those that complete the Skipper Approval Google Form (see Entry Process section). These are subject to skipper approval by fairview.

If after the closing of Stage 1, there is still space for any further entries, Stage 2 will open and additional entries may be submitted before the Stage 2 closing date of Tuesday 29 March 2022.

These Stage 2 entries will be allocated on a first come first served basis and are subject to approval and confirmation from the Organising Authority, as and when received.

Entry Process

To apply for this competition:

  1. Read all information, including NoR (link here
  2. Skippers to complete the google form (link here) to get approval from Fairview. Entries are decided on a first come first serve basis from the time of filling out the skipper approval form. 
  3. Once skipper approval is granted fill out the BUCS yacht entry form (link here) and return to Fairview along with the deposit within 2 weeks of approval
  4. Once you are approved by Fairview, the skipper can apply on BUCS Play to the Yachting Championships. Instructions on how to do this can be found here
  5. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here
  6. All remaining crew members MUST be on the Sailing Competitors and Reserves List. Deadline is Thursday 31st March 2022.
  7. Pay full charter fee and damage deposit paid by 14th of February

Registering Competitors and Reserves on BUCS Play

All sailors (competitors, potential competitors and reserves) need to be registered on the Competitors and Reserves list on BUCS Play to compete in any sailing event this year. Competitors for the Yachting Championships will need to be entered onto this by Thursday 31 March 2022 at the latest in order to be eligible for selection for the BUCS Yachting Championships.

This will remain open for additional sailors to be added in preparation for the other sailing Championships. Clubs are strongly advised to register all their sailors just in case.

Disability Access

Sailors should contact BUSA ([email protected]) after their entry has been submitted, so we can ensure that we and the club have adequate support in place.

BUSA Affiliations

All institutions participating in BUSA/BUCS events are required to be members of BUSA. The Annual subscription, as described on the BUSA website is required in order to participate. 

Covid-19 Measures

Covid-19 Measures

The safety of students, volunteers and staff remains paramount as we move into the 2021-22 season, therefore for the time being we will still be implementing a series of COVID-19 Measures at our events. Although certain safety measures surrounding COVID-19 will be dictated by a venue or specific sport requirements we will be continuing to implement the following general measures across all of our events.

  1. Event Disclaimer includes specifics around COVID-19
  2. Whist inside staff members and volunteers interacting with competitors will be wearing appropriate face coverings
  3. COVID-19 questionnaire completed prior to arrival at the event by all competitors, officials, volunteers and support staff.
  4. Access to hand-washing facilities, or hand sanitiser

 What’s expected of competitors:

  1. Event competitors should stay home if they have been diagnosed with, or suspected to have COVID-19 
  2. Event competitors are expected to test if they have any COVID-19 symptoms or live in the same household with someone with COVID-19 symptoms prior to attending an event
  3. Competitors should stay home if they have been instructed to quarantine/self isolate due to international travel restrictions or by relevant home nation test and trace systems
  4. Competitors must follow direction from event staff, venue staff and volunteers.
  5. Competitors must complete COVID-19 questionnaire prior to arrival at the event  
  6. Competitors should ensure they are following hand hygiene practices at all times
  7. Competitors are encouraged to wear a face covering when indoors and moving about the building
  8. Competitors should follow the guidance and safety procedures outlined for the event you are attending. These can be found in the Event Guide
  9. Competitors unable to attend event due to COVID-19 must contact the event lead

 Lateral Flow Tests and Vaccine Status 

  1. For some events, dependent on local council recommendations or venue requirements we may require proof of negative PCR or rapid lateral flow tests within the last 24 hours or proof of being fully vaccinated for at least 2 weeks.
  2. If this is required it will be detailed in the entry information and the event guide for that event 

Whilst we are very much hoping to be able to deliver a full calendar there is always the possibility that changing guidance around COVID-19 might impact this or lead to changes to our event formats or delivery models. We will endeavour to ensure regular communication regarding any changes.
