No entries will be accepted after the entry deadline.

See squadding tab for more information.

Experience Required

It is expected that all competitors will be experienced enough to handle a shotgun safely and proficiently to shoot 100 clays in a competition format without tuition. This is imperative for the safety of everyone and the time constraints of the competition. The ground has the right to stop anyone from shooting the competition, with no refund, if they do not think a suitable level of competence is being adhered to.

Entry Process

To apply for the competition all eligible competitors must follow these steps:

  1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  3. BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list

Any data will be handled in accordance with BUCS Privacy Policy and Prescott Sporting LTD

By participating in this event you agree to adhere to BUCS General Event Disclaimer

To check whether you are eligible to compete in BUCS competitions, please visit REG 4 Individual Eligibility.

Competition Format

The event will take place over two days with each squad only being required to shoot on one day. You will be asked to submit your preference on the BUCS Play entry form. Where possible, BUCS will allocate days and times based on these preferences, however due to safety restrictions relating to competitor numbers it may not be possible to accommodate all preferences.

Please note; when submitting entries an institution’s competitors may be allocated a shooting time on either day. Therefore, competitors will need to be available for both the Saturday and Sunday of the competition.

Competition days will be confirmed in the entry guide once entries have closed.

Squadding

Competitors will be divided into squads for the duration of the competition. When individuals enter the competition on BUCS Play, there will be the opportunity to select your top two preferences for shooting times. Institutions administrators will then be required to sort competitors on BUCS Play into squads of six using the ranking system below.

Institution Administrators:

Please squad your team by writing '1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1' in the ranking boxes next to one squad, '2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2' in the ranking boxes next to squad two, '3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3' in the ranking boxes next to squad three, and so on.

At least one person per squad must be a license holder to be responsible for any non-licence holders in that group.

BUCS will try to accommodate these squad requests wherever possible, but we cannot guarantee that first preferences will be possible in all situations. If you are entering competitors as individuals, or as a squad less than six competitors, you will be merged with other universities. Please note; this does not affect your team score.

Squadding lists will be available by 5pm Friday 1st December 2023.

License Holders

At least one person per squad must hold a shotgun certificate/license and will be responsible for any non-licence holders in that group.

If there are less than 6 in your squad and one of you have a licence, you may be allocated other participants to be responsible for from other institutions.

You may also be allocated a different squad to ensure that there are enough participants with licences per squad so that everyone can shoot. Where possible we will try and make sure that each squad is full and that there are at least 2 members from the same university in each squad.

You must bring your license to registration at the event. If you forget your license you will be required to compete as a non-license holder which will cause issues with squadding.

Non-License Holders

lf you do not hold a Shotgun Certificate you will not be allowed to shoot at this ground unless you read the following notice prior to acknowledging it on entry.

‘Under Section 21 of the Firearms Act 1968 any person who has served a prison sentence or youth custody for a period of more than three months but less than three years is prohibited from having a firearm or ammunition in his / her possession. A person who has served a prison sentence or youth custody for a period of more than three years is prohibited for life.'

As a non-licence holder, you need to be supervised by a licence holder.

If you do not have a licence holder within your group, your squad may be split so that you are in a squad with a licence holder.

If you are entering as an individual without a licence, you will be allocated a squad with a licence holder. It will be your responsibility in this case to ensure the license holder is happy to lend his or her gun to you in these circumstances and no responsibility of Orston Shooting Ground’

Equipment

Orston Shooting Ground will not be responsible for the lending or distribution of any shotguns between universities and license holders. This is solely at the responsibilities of individuals and universities where they are in mixed squads.

It is the responsibility of the team to ensure every competitor is shooting with hearing and eye protection, as per the Rules and Regulations. You will not be able to shoot without them.
