Entry Allowance

Universities are permitted to make TWO entries by rite into each category at the Outdoor Athletics Championships. To be able to compete a person must have competed in that event since 1st January 2021 and have a link to a Power of 10 profile, European Athletics Website, World Athletics website, or their national website, providing it take us to the individuals profile, that proves this BP.

Example:

This a correct link and I thank Jonathon Broom-Edwards for allowing me to use his link as an example.

https://www.thepowerof10.info/athletes/profile.aspx?athleteid=85951

The link below will not be accepted.  As it takes you to a log in page, which requires an email address and password, which we do not have.

https://www.thepowerof10.info/user/potuserloginconfirmation.aspx

A person wishing to compete in the 5000m, Triple Jump or Pole Vault must also meet that Entry Standard. The criteria for those events are explained in the Entry information when entries open (circa March 2023).

Universities may also enter a 3rd and 4th athlete (which will be accepted if there is capacity).

However, in this case ALL athletes from the institution in that event MUST achieve the “Entry Standard for 3-4 athletes” (see below).

Example:

University A – Enters two males into the 400m, their BPs are 50.33 and 51.43. Entries accepted

University B – Enters three males into the 400m, their BPs are 48.43, 47.50 and 48.12. Entries accepted

University C – Enters four males into the 400m, their BPs are 48.00, 46.99, 49.20, 50.46. Entries rejected

  • 48.00, 46.99, 49.20, 50.46 Slower than 49.00.

The University may select TWO of their athletes to compete in the competition, as all four did not meet the standard.

These standards are set at the average result for the 8th qualifier for the final in track events, 12th in the 1500m and 5000m and the 12th qualifier in field events (where possible) over the past 5 years of BUCS Outdoor Athletics competition.

Parallel Success

BUCS incorporate events for eligible student para-athletes.

Classification is an integral part of para athletics to ensure fair competition. All athletes participating in these events must have undergone at least a UKA National Level Classification by the competition date. UKA can advise on details on any classification events coming up soon for athletes requiring a Classification. To do this, please contact Job King.

The Parallel Success events will be eligible for team and BUCS points and medals awarded depending on the numbers of entrants into each event. Events will be mixed categories scored on the RAZA system. If there are vacant lanes in the track events and sufficient space in the field events guest para athletes may be invited to compete.

The RAZA system enables different classifications to compete against each other and RAZA calculates the best performance (BP) based on world records for each classification. In the Parallel Success events, medals will be awarded for the top three competitors in each event. Following BUCS regulation 6.1.2, BUCS points will be only available for events where an individual has beaten another individual. For example, if there is only one individual in a race, they will receive a gold medal. If there are two athletes, they will receive gold and silver medals, and the gold medal winner will also receive BUCS points.

Students wishing to enter these para-athletics events must enter via their Athletic Union/Sports Office in the same manner as all other entries for these events. There is no requirement for athletes to have previously competed in the specific event.

Each institution is permitted unlimited para entries, however only the top two placing athletes will be awarded BUCS points.

As per REG 6.1.2.1.7, If there are less than 8 competitors in an event, a competitor must have beaten a fellow competitor within the same competition to be eligible for BUCS points, but all competitors finishing in the top three for any race will be awarded a BUCS medal.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS

Please put Athletes 1 & 2 in as guaranteed entries

If you wish to enter a 3rd & 4th Athlete please put them in as non-guaranteed entries

RESERVES (SUBSTITUTES)

Reserves must be entered into the BUCS Play system alongside the entries.

If an athlete is listed in a relay or in an individual event they do not need to be put on the reserve list.

All athletes marked as non-guaranteed will be automatically moved onto the institution's reserves list. Only athletes not listed elsewhere need to be entered into the reserve list.

There is no limit to the number of reserves an institution can enter. Only athletes named on the reserve list or already competing in the competition will be able to be used as substitutes.

Substitutes must have an eligible BP within the following timeframe, between 1 January 2021 and 4 April 2023 inclusive, for the event they are to be substituted into and WILL be checked on the day. Standards will also apply to substitutions.

Following the closure of entries and any subsequent checking of Best Performances, athletes on the reserve list will not be allowed to be substituted into an event from which they have previously been rejected if the reason for rejection was failing to provide a Best Performance within the last 2 years, failing to provide a Power of 10 link (or equivalent results link) or not meeting the required standard where standards are necessary.
