Races

There are four different races that occur at the BUCS Cross Country Championships. Only the Men's and Women's Long Races have BUCS Points attributed.

Men’s Long Race: 10k

Only six men per institution may run in the Men’s Long Race. This is be declared at the event. All men to be entered into one category on BUCS Play. Men’s Team competition determined by top 4 finishers from a University.

Advisory note: If competing in the Long Race students should have competed in a 10km Cross Country race before and should be able to complete the course in under 55 minutes. We would not encourage those that are not confident with this in competing in this race.

Men’s Short Race: 8k

For all who do not wish to run in the Long race and for Universities with more than six male competitors. This will be declared at the event. All men to be entered into one category on BUCS Play. Men’s Team competition determined by top 4 finishers from a University. Multiple teams per university may count in results.

Women’s Long Race: 8k

Only four women per institution may run in the Women’s Long Race. This is be declared at the event. All women to be entered into one category on BUCS Play. Women’s Team competition determined by top 3 finishers from a University.

Advisory note: If competing in the Long Race students should have competed in a 8km Cross Country race before and should be able to complete the course in under 55 minutes. We would not encourage those that are not confident with this in competing in this race.

BUCS Points will not be allocated where the minimum number of competitors/teams has not been reached, or where there are not enough individual scores to extract a team score. Furthermore, an individual/team must have beaten another individual/team to score BUCS Points (i.e. if 3 individuals/teams compete in an event, only 2 will score BUCS Points). This does not apply to extracted teams. Individuals/teams are regarded as having competed if they started the event; therefore DNS will not be regarded as having competed.

Competition Rules

This event will be contested under the rules of UK Athletics and the BUCS Regulations.

Entry Allowance

Institutions can request an unlimited number of entries. Should the event reach capacity, BUCS may need to restrict the number of entries per institution. Only 6 men per university and 4 womens per university can compete in the long race.

This is declared at the event by the team captain.

Eligibility

This event is open to students at BUCS member institutions only. Competitors should have available a valid student identification card, or another form of photographic identification, to confirm their eligibility for the competition. These may be requested at any time during the event.
