The 2019-20 BUCS Track Cycling Championship gave competitors the chance to qualify for the British Track Championships for the first time.

Held at the Home of British Cycling, the championships saw 191 student athletes from 34 institutions venture to Manchester for two-days of competitive racing.

The weekend saw four BUCS records broken with ten individuals recording 11 national qualifying times.

One of the national qualifiers was Cardiff University, Lewis Oliva. A current BUCS record holder and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Oliva won the Men’s Kilo to send him off to the British Track Championships.

Another great success of the event was para-athlete Hannah Moore, from Loughborough University. Competing in the C4 Female 3km Individual Pursuit, Moore smashed the four year old national record for this event by 12 seconds*.

After being successful in last year’s sport review, BUCS and British Cycling worked together to help make this championship a better pathway for track cyclists to qualify for the National Championships.

At the end of the weekend, University of Nottingham were crowned Men’s Team Champions, while Loughborough University won the Women’s Team Championships.

The students will now compete at the British Track Championships at National Cycling Centre in Manchester between the 24-26 January 2020.
