Sam Charig powers on home to win GB Students fifth medal at Rhine-Ruhr in the men’s 1500m final.

The Lohrheidestadion arena plays host to another GB Students medal, staying on the blue track in Bochum this time for Sam Charig in the 1500m men’s final.

Earlier in the week the GB Students athlete from St.Mary’s University Twickenham was part of heat number two in the 1500m, finishing second in his heat with a time of 3:44.32. The placing and the time was enough to cement his place in Thursday nights final under the lights.

Along comes the evening of the race and time for the magic to commence. Sam tucked himself nicely in the middle of the pack at the start of the race and that’s where he stayed until the bell rang for the final lap.

A change of pace from the whole pack saw Sam dig deep for the final 400m as it turned into a sprinting race for the top spot. Coming into the final 50m of the race Sam sat in fourth spot but he just about had enough in the tank to take that last spot and finish out the race and claim the bronze medal.

Sam’s medal takes GB Students Rhine-Ruhr 2025 tally up to five and counting for the games.
