The BUCS Executive, together with the Contest Director, have made the difficult decision to cancel the BUCS Surfing Championships this weekend (17-19 October).

Forecasts are showing conditions to be un-contestable on Friday and Saturday, and an unfavourable forecast on Sunday.

BUCS are now working with the Contest Director and other partners in Cornwall to try to rearrange this competition. Our aspirations are to deliver this event in Spring 2026. We will release more information on the feasibility of this as soon as possible. To drive this forward, BUCS are now committed to:

  • Undertaking immediate conversations with the Contest Director and National Governing Body, Surfing England to identify viable dates.

  • Engage in conversations with Cornwall Council to understand viability of identified dates.

  • Have conversations with suppliers including the RNLI to understand availability.

The decision to cancel has not been taken lightly. We have been monitoring the conditions and discussing all options available to us with the Contest Director. Unfortunately, the forecasted conditions have not changed which has now forced us to cancel this weekend's event.

Institutions will not be billed for entries to the competition. If we can rearrange the date, a new event entry will be made available via BUCS Play, and institutions will be invited to begin the entry process again. We promise to share updated plans as soon as possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
