BUCS Club Committee Leaders events have kicked off for the 2026/27 season with three regional events in Southampton, Nottingham and Newcastle.

This October, the BUCS Football Development team have been on a roadshow across the country bringing football and futsal committee members from universities across the UK together to develop their leadership skills and share ideas to take back to their clubs.

Club Committee Leaders is one of BUCS’ national initiatives that aims to support and upskill student club committee members in the skills and knowledge needed to effectively lead their sports clubs. Across the one day events, students from a range of committee roles and universities took part in workshops and discussions, focused on strengthening their leadership, confidence and management both of their committee and futsal and football clubs.

Each event kicked off with a session delivered by Benson Miyoba from Two Seven Seven, exploring how to create high performing teams and manage conflict, encouraging students to think about how their committees can work effectively together throughout the season.

At lunchtime, students also had the opportunity to explore the grounds of St Mary's Stadium (South event), the City Ground (Midlands event) and St James' Park (North event).

In the afternoon, students shared and compared their club SWOT analyses, exchanging ideas and learning from the experiences of other universities. This was followed by a session on club culture and inclusion, exploring the type of culture students want to create, how to ensure their clubs are inclusive to all and what both male and female committees can do to create more inclusive and gender equitable environments across the sport.

The days finished with action planning, with students identifying key steps they could take back to their universities and put into practice within their clubs.

What’s Next

We’re looking forward to seeing what our football and futsal committees achieve throughout the season and how they put their learning into action within their clubs. We will also be expanding the CCL offer this year to include more specific online sessions and workshops to support club committee members so keep an eye out for these in the New Year!

The BUCS Football Development team would like to thank Southampton FC, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United for hosting us, as well as Benson Miyoba and Two Seven Seven for his delivery and to all students who engaged and attended the event.
