We’re delighted to share that BUCS Member, Anika Leslie-Walker of Nottingham Trent University has been successfully appointed to the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Inclusion and Diversity Commission.

The Inclusion and Diversity Commission members for the 2026-2030 term were elected during the EUSA Executive Committee Meeting held in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 19-22 March.

The Inclusion and Diversity Commission (IDC) is the body responsible for submitting recommendations and advisement to the Executive Committee on development, implementation and promotion of diversity and equal opportunities within EUSA and its members.

The newly elected members will promote and protect the right to equal opportunities in university sport, ensure that the principles of equal opportunities and non-discrimination are deeply integrated within EUSA and promote the use of sport as a tool for gender equality/empowerment and raising awareness of harassment and abuse in sport. The group will also advocate for increased participation of female athletes at EUSA events and EUSA governing bodies, promoting the rights of all in and through sport.

Newly elected Executive Committee member, Anika Leslie-Walker (Nottingham Trent University), said: "I am delighted to join the EUSA Inclusion and Diversity Committee at a time when there is growing recognition of the need for more inclusive, accessible and equitable sport systems across higher education. My work is underpinned by a focus on promoting equity and inclusion in sport and physical activity, with particular expertise in gender and race equity. I look forward to working collaboratively with colleagues across Europe to translate research into meaningful action that supports sustained student participation and inclusive university sport. This appointment enables me to contribute to the review, development and implementation of policy and practice, helping to ensure that university sport is safe, accessible and welcoming for all students."

"Adding Anika to EUSA commissions following the appointment of University of Exeter's Bill Thompson in October 2025 strengthens the contribution of our members to the EUSA community."

Bill Thompson, EUSA Executive Committee Member, added: "Anika’s appointment to the Inclusion and Diversity Commission will definitely benefit EUSA and European Sport.  She brings an unquestionable passion for promoting gender and racial equity in sport and there is no doubt she will be an asset. I’m excited and can’t wait to have her as a member of the EUSA family."
