Covering six key topics, the series will help attendees unlock their leadership potential, build strong professional networks, master time management, develop conflict resolution strategies, and effectively showcase Committee roles in job applications and interviews.
Through interactive sessions, real-world examples, and practical exercises, participants will gain the confidence and tools to maximise their impact both within university sport and in their future careers.
These online workshops are open to any students studying at a BUCS member university or college.
NEW WORKSHOPS FOR 2025-26
There are six workshop themes confirmed for this year, with each workshop being offered twice on the date advertised. Students can choose between attending at 12pm or 6pm. Each workshop is 50 minutes in duration with an additional ten minutes for anyone who wants to stay on to ask questions.
WORKSHOP 1:Tuesday 21 October - Unleashing the leader within you
This session explores what it means to be a leader in sport, and how these skills translate into future career opportunities. Attendees will explore leadership styles, learn from athlete leaders, and develop strategies to manage teams effectively.
Key Outcomes:
- Understand the core qualities of an effective leader & how to develop them
- Explore practical strategies & leadership styles for motivating & managing teams

WORKSHOP 2: Tuesday 18 November - How to effectively deal with conflict resolution Managing inevitable conflicts effectively is a key trait of great leaders; this workshop provides a structured approach to identifying conflict sources, de-escalating situations, and facilitating productive resolutions. Real-world scenarios will be explored to help attendees build practical conflict management skills.

WORKSHOP 3: Tuesday 9 December - How to become a master of networking at your university and the wider sector
This session breaks down the art of networking, from making meaningful connections at university to expanding professional circles in the wider sports and business industries. Attendees will explore key techniques to leverage opportunities and develop their personal brand.

- Understand the value of developing strong personal & professional networks
- Gain confidence in how to build new relationships & gain valuable connections
- Learn to create a personal brand by optimising social media, digital tools & event
WORKSHOP 4: Tuesday 20 January - How to manage and maximize your time efficiently
Time management strategies are key to creating successful and sustainable plans, so this workshop will explore proven techniques to maximise efficiency and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Key Outcomes
- Learn key prioritisation & time management techniques to improve productivity
- Create effective short & long term plans, including goal setting exercises
- Further develop an understanding of the importance of a healthy work-life balance
WORKSHOP 5: Tuesday 17 February - How to present leadership roles on CVs and application forms
This session teaches attendees how to highlight Leadership experiences effectively in CVs, cover letters, and applications. Through practical examples and interactive exercises, participants will be able to craft compelling applications that resonate with future employers.

- Understand how Leadership roles can add value to job applications
- Learn how to effectively communicate leadership experiences to prospective employers
- Gain insights into employer expectations & current industry recruitment trends
WORKSHOP 6: Tuesday 17 March - How to sell yourself in interviews / future opportunities
Interview skills are a difference maker when it comes to securing employment and future opportunities. Learn how to prepare for and execute an interview that highlights sporting and leadership experiences, in an engaging, well-research manner whilst gaining an insight into the “do’s” and “don’ts” from the panel.
Key Outcomes
- Understand how to best prepare & research for interviews & interview questions
- Develop an interview “routine” incorporating new response techniques
- Learn the common interview mistakes & hear tips & tricks to improve interview performance
