Entry to the Trophy Competition is open to institutions with teams entered in Tier 1 and Tier 2 of the BUCS Rugby League leagues for the 2023-24 season, as well as any teams who are not currently competing within the BUCS leagues.

Universities are permitted to enter multiple teams into the Trophy Competition, however, should the event reach capacity, BUCS may need to restrict the number of entries. If there are more institutions that request a 1st team entry than can be accommodated, those which are accepted will be determined by a random draw.

Each team can have a maximum of 15 players in a squad and a minimum of 9 players in the squad. Teams will NOT be able to field squad members who have established normality within a Premier Tier (North or South) team within the 2023/24 league season. If a team is successful in its “powerplay” then play will be restarted by the non-scoring team with a “tap” on the halfway line. Alternatively, teams can opt to convert the try by way of a drop goal.
