Overall Team’ = the biathlon team competition will be decided by totalling the run and swim scores of the top three finishing team members.

Pentathlon Events

Mixed Pentathlon Overall Team

Overall Team’ = the pentathlon team competition will be decided by totalling all the event scores of each team member. The winning team will be the team that has the highest score across all five events. Can be found in Appendix 1 of the BUCS rules and regulations

Entry Allowance

Institutions can request an unlimited number of entries, however should the event reach capacity BUCS may need to restrict the number of entries per institution. Therefore, when submitting entries on BUCS Play, entries should be ranked in order of preference of entry before being submitted. Should BUCS need to restrict per this will be done equally across instituions.

Entry Process

To apply for the competition all eligible competitors must follow these steps:

  1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  3. Competitors for modern pentathlon and tetrathlon to enter through the Pentathlon GB Sport80 platform. 
  4. BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list

Please note: All pentathlon and tetrathlon competitors will need to have PGB membership prior to applications being submitted, and enter through the PGB, logging the appropriate certificates. Student membership is available as an annual subscription, from Pentathlon GB’s webpage. Entries will only be valid if all relevant certificates are logged with Pentathlon GB.

Please also note: 

Any teams entering 10 or more athletes will need to provide us the name of a volunteer. This can be two people who are both competing.

With no volunteer then we will allocate one from your team as the overall running of the event is dependent on this.

Withdrawals

Competitor withdrawals must be made by a competitor’s institutional admin by emailing James Francis. 

Withdrawals before the entry deadline, Thursday 24 February 2022 at 11:59pm will not be charged.

Withdrawals after the entry deadline, Thursday 24 February 2022 at 11:59pm will still be charged the entry fee.

Covid-19

Covid-19 Measures

The safety of students, volunteers and staff remains paramount as we move into the 2021-22 season, therefore for the time being we will still be implementing a series of COVID-19 Measures at our events. Although certain safety measures surrounding COVID-19 will be dictated by a venue or specific sport requirements we will be continuing to implement the following general measures across all of our events.

  1. Event Disclaimer includes specifics around COVID-19
  2. Whist inside staff members and volunteers interacting with competitors will be wearing appropriate face coverings
  3. COVID-19 questionnaire completed prior to arrival at the event by all competitors, officials, volunteers and support staff.
  4. Access to hand-washing facilities, or hand sanitiser

 What’s expected of competitors:

  1. Event competitors should stay home if they have been diagnosed with, or suspected to have COVID-19 
  2. Event competitors are expected to test if they have any COVID-19 symptoms or live in the same household with someone with COVID-19 symptoms prior to attending an event
  3. Competitors should stay home if they have been instructed to quarantine/self isolate due to international travel restrictions or by relevant home nation test and trace systems
  4. Competitors must follow direction from event staff, venue staff and volunteers.
  5. Competitors must complete COVID-19 questionnaire prior to arrival at the event  
  6. Competitors should ensure they are following hand hygiene practices at all times
  7. Competitors are encouraged to wear a face covering when indoors and moving about the building
  8. Competitors should follow the guidance and safety procedures outlined for the event you are attending. These can be found in the Event Guide
  9. Competitors unable to attend event due to COVID-19 must contact the event lead

 Lateral Flow Tests and Vaccine Status 

  1. For some events, dependent on local council recommendations or venue requirements we may require proof of negative PCR or rapid lateral flow tests within the last 24 hours or proof of being fully vaccinated for at least 2 weeks.
  2. If this is required it will be detailed in the entry information and the event guide for that event 

Whilst we are very much hoping to be able to deliver a full calendar there is always the possibility that changing guidance around COVID-19 might impact this or lead to changes to our event formats or delivery models. We will endeavour to ensure regular communication regarding any changes.
