Modern Biathlon and Pentathlon is back for 2024 and this year it is in Oxford, so get ready to bring your A game!

Registration

REGISTRATION

Registration will take place 17.00-17.30 for the Riding event on Friday 8th March at Wellington Riding. Competitors are able to arrive from 16.30 onwards.

On Saturday 9th March, at Oxford University Sports Centre by the main sports hall, registration will be open from 07:30 - 07:45 for Tetrathletes, and between 11.30 - 12:00 for Biathletes. All competitors are welcome to come earlier and spectate other events, however you must register during the correct slot for your event.

The laser shoot will be held outside on the corner of the track. Cover will be provided for targets if the weather is inclement. Spikes can be worn if desired.

Heats will be populated on the day and published on the noticeboard as soon as they have been calculated. This is likely to be ~10 minutes after registration closes.

Pentathlon, Tetrathlon and Biathlon Swim – Rosenblatt Pool, Iffley Road Sports Centre

Swim heats will not be published until after the biathlon registration has closed.

Please note the swimming pool is open to the public until 15:00 so wait for organisers’ instruction to change. Swimmers in HEATS 1 - 4 ONLY should be changed ready for 15:00. All other swimmers please change after 15:00, but please be aware the second briefing and warm up may start earlier than timetabled if the first set of heats runs quicker than expected.

Swimming warm ups 

Swimmers should be aware that, during the warm up, there will be a maximum of eight swimmers per lane. In specified lanes, diving will be permitted and these lanes will operate in ONE DIRECTION. It is potentially very serious if someone should dive on to another swimmer. Swimmers ignoring these instructions will risk a penalty of points removed from their score or, at worst, removal from the competition. This will be implemented at the organisers’ discretion, after discussion with the health and safety team at the Iffley Road Sports Centre.

Food and Drink

FOOD & DRINK

Ride event - No food is available at Wellinton Riding

All other events – There is a small café at the Iffley Road sports centre. The nearest shops are Sainsburys by the Magdalen bridge (10 minutes walk) or Tesco on Cowley road (12 minutes walk)

Photography & Videography

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY

Anyone wishing to take photos or video at this event must complete the BUCS Media Accreditation Form prior to the event.

BUCS reserves the right to prohibit photography equipment being used at a BUCS event. BUCS reserves the right to request that the individual ceases to take photographs, deletes any images and, if considered necessary, leaves the venue.

There is very limited parking at Iffley Road sports centre available on a first come first served basis.

Alternative parking can be found at St Mary and St John School, Meadow Ln, Oxford OX4 1TJ (5-10 minute walk from Iffley)

Presentations will take place at the main sports hall, Iffley road sports centre at approx.. 17.30 (following the end of the swim event)

SUSTAINABILITY

The sustainability of our event matters to us and these are the positive steps we are taking to manage our environmental impact:

  • All staff and volunteers are encouraged to travel to the event via public transport
  • We have used local suppliers where possible
  • Event programmes are all online, minimising paper use
  • We will print on demand merchandise (if applicable)

How can you help at this event? Here’s some ideas:

  • Be self-sufficient by using refillable bottles and coffee cups to reduce waste
  • Travel smarter – as a team on a minibus, cycle or use public transport
  • Go paperless - use your phone for all event information

Rules and Regulations

RULES AND REGULATIONS

BUCS Rules and regulations can be found at https://www.bucs.org.uk/rules-and-regulations.html . If the rule can’t be found then the competition will be run in accordance with the Pentathlon GB Rule book (https://www.pentathlongb.org/p/rules ).

In the event of an appeal, the jury of appeal shall consist of Kathryn Smith and the director for that particular event (or a nominated substitute if required). The jury will hear reasonable argument and then shall reach a fair decision according to the rule book. The jury’s decision is final.
