Registration
All competitors must present a photographic student ID card at registration on the day of the Championships. Any competitor without the relevant identification will not be permitted to compete. There will be spot checks with licenses carried out on the day; all competitors are reminded that a valid license must be presented upon request. Failure to do so may result in entry being denied.
Format
Novice Kumite rounds will be 1½ minutes long. Senior matches as per WKF rules will be 3 minute matches
BUCS reserves the right to alter these timings of matches across the event
Clothing & Equipment
The following equipment is compulsory and must be provided by the competitors themselves:
- No belts of mitts will be available around the mats on the day.
- Gum shields, foot and shin pads and ladies chest protectors are compulsory.
- Groin guards are advised
In addition, competitors, as well as coaches, must only wear insignia of their institutions on all clothing including the Gi. No insignia of style, nation, federation or association will be allowed. Gi does not have to be WKF approved
Weigh In
Weigh in for the Kumite will take place after the Kata has finished on Saturday afternoon. Please listen for announcements.
ALL PLAYERS MUST BRING THEIR VALID LICENSE TO THE WEIGH IN.
Licenses
As per BUCS regulations that this event will be run in accordance with WKF rules. All competitors must hold a valid, up to date recognisable karate licence, duly completed with full and appropriate grading history. For competitors that gained grades from another association, then that licence must also be presented for scrutiny. Licence checks will be carried out on the day, and Universities and competitors are reminded that a valid licence must be presented upon request; failure to do so may result in entry being denied.
Coaches
All coaches will have to register at the registration desk, sign a disclaimer and obtain a wristband in order to approach the Karate mat.
Withdrawals
Withdrawals after the entry closing date must be e-mailed by the Institution Administration and e-mailed to the BUCS Event Lead. Withdrawals after the entry closing date will still be charged the entry fee.
Withdrawals after 17:00 on Wednesday 29th March 2023 will be classified as a ‘no-show’ and will be charged the entry fee and an additional £10 fine payable by the Athletic Union (or equivalent).
Entrants who do not withdraw, and do not register at the event, will also be classified as a ‘no-show’ and will be charged the entry fee and an additional £10 fine payable by the Athletic Union (or equivalent).
Food & Drink
Competitors are responsible for their own food and drink. Food is available to purchase on site or at a range of places across campus. All competitors and spectators have a responsibility to keep the venue and competition areas clean and tidy, and use the bins provided.
Parking
Very limited parking is available at the sports arena. We would recommend using the Wilberforce multi-storey car park on campus which does require payment. Click here for full parking information.
Spectators
Spectators are permitted however must only spectate from the bleacher seating. Spectators should not approach the competition mats. You do not need to purchase a ticket to spectate.
Qualification for European University Championship
This event will be used as qualification for European University Championships 2023. The top 2 finishers in each category will automatically qualify with further qualification subject to National Governing Body approval. The top two finishers will have to confirm their attendance within 7 days of event completion. Institution approval will be required.
