General Rules

This event may be contested by riders entered via the BUCS event entry system and the disciplines may be contested within the following categories by both male and female athletes:

Event Regulations

Sprint

The best 16 riders in the 200m qualifying round will progress through to contest the 1 st round of Sprints.

The competition shall at least include:

  • 16 riders
  • A 200 meters time trial, flying start
  • 1 st round sprints, straight
  • 1/4 finals, straight
  • 1/2 finals, straight
  • Finals 3rd-4th and 1st-2nd, best of 3 rounds

Elimination Race

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the bylaws and run as a straight final.

Points Race

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the bylaws and run as a straight final.

Time Trials

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the bylaws and run as a straight final.

Individual Pursuit

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the bylaws and run as a qualifying of top 4 for medal finals

Team Sprint

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the bylaws and run as a qualifying of top 4 for medal finals

Team Pursuit

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the bylaws and run as a qualifying of top 4 for medal finals

Series Format

To compete at the BUCS Track Cycling Championship, you will need a Racing licence. If you do not hold a British Cycling Racing Licence you will need to buy a Day Licence at the event on each of the days you compete (e.g. one licence for Saturday and another for Sunday).

The cost of a licence (per day) depends on whcih British Cycling Membership you have:

BUCS Points

Information on BUCS Points and medals can be found in Appendix 1 and Regulation 6.

Overall Team (Men’s and Women’s) Calculation

  • All entrants are eligible to count towards their institution's overall team total.
  • The top eight finishers in each race will be allocated the following points: 1st = 8, 2nd = 7, 3rd = 6, 4th = 5, 5th = 4, 6th = 3, 7th = 2, 8th = 1. Where individuals/teams are tied on finishing position, points will be split according to their joint position and distributed equally to the joint institutions. For example, if two individuals tie for 2nd place the points for 2nd and 3rd place will be combined and split equally among them.
  • Overall team placings shall be determined based on the total points accumulated by each institution.

Substitutions and Withdrawals

Only substitutions for the Team Pursuit, Team Sprint and Points will be permitted.

Only athletes already entered into the Track Cycling Championships will be an eligible substitute. Before the competition, IA's should request, by email, a substitution to Maddi Cannell. From Thursday 16th February 2023, and at the event, substitutions should be requested in person at the BUCS event desk.

Prior to entries closing, withdrawals can be made free of charge. After the IA deadline has passed, no refunds will be given for withdrawals. This applied regardless of the reason for withdrawal. Withdrawals should be made by your IA in writing to Maddi Cannell.

Competition Format

Any riders/teams that 'Do Not Show' (DNS) for their race will be subject to a £100.00 fine.

In case of a new injury, evidence provided by a doctor's note or equivalent will be accepted.

All races will run in accordance with the rules of the appropriate International or National Governing Body. In this instance, the UCI and British Cycling.

Positioning of Race Numbers

Ensure that your numbers are positioned as demonstrated in the diagram on both left and right side. This will ensure that both the Commissaires and Timing Box are able to identify you correctly. If you have a no pins suit, please ensure that your numbers are at the furthest most points of the outer sides. Unidentifiable numbers will result in relegations to the end of the race results.

General Information

Sign on will be held in the Track Centre. Please ensure you have your British Cycling/UCI licence ready and that your licence has a photo of yourself, and is signed and completed with the relevant emergency contact information.

Spot checks are carried out by commissaires, and they reserve the right to pull you from the competition if you cannot provide all the required information.

Catering

This year we will have a refreshment service provided by Newport Live located in the Track Centre. A variety of hot drinks, snacks and light refreshments will be available to purchase.

A filtered water fountain is available in Track Centre.

Sign On/Day Licences

Please note your sign on time and ensure that you are fully warmed up and ready to go for the start of the event at 10:00

Bike Storage

Bike storage is available to rent directly from Newport Live for the duration of the event for £15.00. 

If you wish to leave your bike within the Track Centre overnight, you do so at your own risk. The venue nor event organisers take responsibility for any unattended equipment.

Race Queries

If you wish to query the result of a race, this needs to be made within 5 minutes of the completion of that race.

All queries must be made directly to the Tournament Director, Kyleigh Manners, who will take the request and detail the specifics to the Race Jury.

All decisions from the Race Jury are final.

Spectating

If you wish to watch the weekends racing, please do so from the stands. There is very limited space for all riders within Track Centre, and with a very tight schedule, only essential personnel within the racing area will enable thje team to move through the programme efficiently.

You are very welcome to use the catering facilities in Track Centre but consume thereafter from your seats in the stands.
