Squadding list

The squadding lists are being organised by the CPSA. Once they are confirmed, they will be published here. 

All efforts will be made to give participants their first choice shooting time preference.  

Competition Format

The BUCS Clay Pigeon Championships is the annual competition for University Students and put on in partnership with the CPSA & Orston Shooting Ground.

It takes place over two days and includes: Women’s Championship, Men’s Championships, Women’s Alumni Championship, Men’s Alumni Championships.

Through the entry process, competitors are required to state their time preferences for shooting. The CPSA work hard to organise squadding which is announced nearer the event.

Each competitor will shoot 100 birds over 13 stands in squads of 6. Please refer to the squadding lists for your start time.

Once your squad has started the competition, you will work through the course in order of stands 1.e 1-2-3-4 etc through to 13. You will have to complete the course before returning to the club house. A period of 2 hours has been allocated to complete the course. There will be no breaks permitted.

Timetable

You must arrive and be ready for registration at your allocated time on your allocated day. This time will be able to be seen once squadding is announced. If you are late, then you will be recorded as a DNS (did not show) and you will be withdrawn from the competition.

A period of 2 hours from your first stand time has been allocated to complete the championships.  

Registration

 

Participants need to register at least 40 mins before their shooting time, it is recommended that you arrive at Orston Shotting Club an hour before your start time. Each start time will have a different registration time. These will be announced nearer the time of the event.

Registration will be in the Club House at Orston Shooting Ground. If you are late for registration or your start time, then you will be recorded as a DNS (did not show) and you will be withdrawn from the competition.

No new entries or substitutions will be accepted on the day of competition.

Licence holders

Scorecards

Each squad will be issued with a score card on stand 1. 

On each stand, you are to pass the score card to the referee who will complete the score card.  If a participant disagrees with a score then that MUST be addressed before they leave the stand and the referee should make the change on the scorecard.

Competitors are not permitted to write anything on the score cards. Your scorecard will be retained on stand 13 and collected by Orson Shotting Ground Staff for completing.

No competitor is permitted to take their scorecard away at the end of the competition. 

Cartridges

Competitors must supply their own cartridges. Orston shotting ground will have a variety of cartridges available to purchase on the day.

If competitors want to have any cartridges saved for them, they can telephone Orston Shooting Ground on 01949 851181 to have them reserved. Payment will be required at the time of reservation to secure.

Safety

This championship is for experienced shooters, this means you must be able to load for yourself as a minimum.  If you are deemed unsafe by the referee, you will be asked to leave your stand and will be disqualified from the competition.

All competitors are required to provide their own ear protection in line with CPSA guidelines. Competitors must ensure that protective eyewear and ear protection is worn throughout. It is advisable to wear a baseball cap for extra protection of falling clays. 

It is the responsibility of each competitor to ensure the safety of his/her gun and the organisers will accept no responsibility in this respect.

Your valid shotgun licences must be available on demand on the day.

Gun Storage

Gun storage will be available at the Orston Shooting Ground on request. This will be at a cost of £2 which will be donated to charity.  

Refreshments

There will be catering available where you can purchase hot and cold food and drinks.  

When out on the grounds shooting, competitors are responsible for making sure that they have food and drink once they start shooting. There will be no breaks permitted.

Alcohol consumption

Any alcohol consumption on site during the competition is strictly prohibited.  Any competitor failing to adhere to this regulation will be automatically disqualified from the competition and asked to leave the venue.

Rules & Regulations

The BUCS Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the following BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, and the CPSA (Clay Pigeon Shooting Association) General and Technical Rules.

Withdrawals & Substitutions

No substitutions are permitted for this event.

Competitors who withdraw after the entry deadline will still be charged the entry fee. Withdraws must be emailed through to [email protected]

Competitors who are accepted in stage 1 and withdrawal after the stage 1 entry deadline will still be charged the entry fee.

Competitors who withdraw after 23:59 on Wednesday 7th November 2022, and/or do not attend registration, or are late to their start time will be classed as a late withdrawal/no show and therefore will be charged the entry fee and will also be fined £20 which will be charged after the event to the competitors athletic union.

An Alumni that doesn’t attend will be charged the entry fee. 

Parking

There is free parking at Orson shooting Grounds across two carparks.  

Changing Facilities & Disability Access

Orston Shooting Club have toilet facilities for participants to use.

The club also has wheelchair access throughout.

Presentations

The medal presentation will take place after the last session has finished and the scoring has been finalised on Sunday 11 December 2022.

BUCS Points

BUCS Points will be awarded for the top 4 placing Men, and top 4 placing Woman.

Overall team points are available for a men's team and a women's team. Team positions are awarded based on an institution's top 4 placings (minimum of 2 placings).

Clothing

All competitors are required to provide their own ear protection in line with CPSA guidelines. Competitors must ensure that protective eyewear and ear protection is worn throughout. It is advisable to wear a baseball cap for extra protection of falling clays. 

Please come prepared for all weather. This includes wearing suitable boots for all terrains. There are no breaks permitted so competitors will need to take coats with them onto the course.
