Event Guide

Draw

The competition draws will be available on the Tournament Software website. Search for ‘BUCS Table Tennis Individual Championships 2019-20’. There will be a slight delay in the draw being released, it will now be posted by noon on Wednesday, 20 November.

Registration

Competitors are required to provide a valid student identification card at registration to confirm their identity and eligibility.

Competitors should allow time to register before competing and are encouraged to register as soon as they arrive at the venue. Registration will be located in the David Ross Sports Village main sports hall.

Competitors must register before their first match and collect their competition number (safety pins will be provided). Competitors who do not register, and do not show for their first match, will be withdrawn.

Withdrawals

Competitors withdrawing during the competition must inform the Tournament Referee, stating their reason for withdrawal. Competitors must also inform their institution they have withdrawn from the competition.

Competitors who do not withdraw, and do not fulfil a match fixture, will be classified as a ‘no-show’ and charged an additional £50 fine payable by the athletic union or students’ union (Reg 4.4).

Timetable

Competitors are to be ready to play 30 minutes before their start time. These start times may change. Competitors are encouraged to check their specific start time when registering at the venue.

Mixed doubles (XD)                    Saturday 23 November              From 9:30 onwards

Men’s singles (MS)                     Saturday 23 November              From 11:00 onwards

Women’s singles (WS)               Saturday 23 November              From 11:00 onwards

Women’s doubles (WD)             Saturday 23 November              From 15:00 onwards

Men’s doubles (MD)                   Saturday 23 November              From 17:30 onwards

Competitors should be aware matches could start at least 30 minutes before the advertised time. Due to the large scale of the competition, matches may start immediately once the previous match has been completed. Competitors must be ready to take to the court as soon as the previous match finishes.

FINALS

The XD final will take place on Saturday 23 November at approximately 18:30.

All other finals will take place on Sunday 24 November. Competitors not competing in the finals are encouraged to stay and watch the action and support the competition. The finals are estimated to finish by 17:00. The presentation of trophies and medals will take place following the conclusion of the finals. Timings are subject to change.

Clothing

Regulation clothing should be worn during matches, including clean rubber or similar soled footwear (non-marking). Competitors should not wear white clothing.

Competitors are requested to wear a coloured polo shirt and shorts / skirt. Doubles pairings are required to wear matching coloured clothing during matches i.e. shirts and shorts must match the same colour and style as their playing partner.

Competitors wishing to wear tracksuit bottoms should consult with the Tournament Referee during registration.

Plate Competition

A Plate competition will take place at 09:00 on Sunday 24 November for competitors who finished third in their group as part of the MS and WS competitions. Competitors who finished fourth in their group should enquire at Event Control for entry into this competition. These competitions are not eligible for BUCS points or medals. More information will be available at Event Control in the main sports hall.

Umpiring

To assist with the running of the competitions; competitors may be requested to umpire matches in the first rounds of the men’s and women’s singles. Cooperation with the officials is expected.

Practice Tables

There will be no official practice tables for the competition so that we were able to accommodate as many competitors as possible. Players are welcome to warm up on the competition tables not in use.

Equipment

Competitors must provide their own equipment. BUCS will provide table tennis balls. BUCS cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to an individual’s possessions left in the venue.

Bribar Table Tennis will be providing all tables and equipment, and the official table tennis ball. BUCS are grateful for Bribar Table Tennis’ support of this event.

Food & Drink

Competitors are responsible for providing their own food and drink. The café within the David Ross Sports Village will be open from 07:00 – 21:00 each day. All competitors and spectators have a responsibility to keep the venue and competition areas clean and tidy, and to use the bins provided.

Food and drink is not allowed within the main sports hall, except for bottled sports drinks or water.

Parking

Please note, from Monday-Friday, the University operates pay and display parking from 9am to 4.15pm. At the David Ross Sports Village, guests can also get one two-hour free ticket at the pay and display machine which is located on the corner of the David Ross Sports Village. On weekends there are no parking charges so guests can park in any marked parking bay on campus for free – please do not mark on grass banks or areas not marked or designated for parking. Parking spaces are limited. Sharing of cars is recommended. BUCS is not responsible for parking at the venue.
