Entry Dates and Costs

Entries open on Tuesday 15 October 2019

Entry Costs:

  • Singles: £28.25
  • Doubles: £37.50

Entry close on Tuesday 5 November 2019 at 23:59 for students/competitors.
Institution Administrators have 48 hours after the student/competitor deadline to approve entries.

Competition Format

Men Singles and Women Single competitions are run using a group stage followed by a knockout stage.

Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles competitions are run using a straight knockout stage.

Competitions take place on both days.

Specific competition start times for all competitions will be published in the event guide.

BUCS Points

The following BUCS points and medals are available in men’s singles (MS), women’s singles (WS), men’s doubles (MD), women’s doubles (WD) and mixed doubles (XD).

  • 1st:12 points and gold medal
  • 2nd: 8 points and silver medal
  • 3rd: 5 points (for both losing semi-finalists) and bronze medal   

No overall team points are available due to there being a league programme.

Entry Allowance

Each institution is allowed four guaranteed entries into MS and WS, and two guaranteed entries in each MD, WD and XD competitions.

Each institution may submit an additional 10 non-guaranteed entries per competition.

Non-guaranteed entries may be accepted for each competition following the entry closing date if the competition allows. Consultation and seeding of the additional entries accepted into the competition will be taken with the BUCS Table Tennis Sport Advisory Group (SAG).

Non-guaranteed entries will only be charged an entry fee if they are accepted into the competition.

Reserve List

Institutions may submit a list of up to 20 reserve competitors (10 men and 10 women). These may be used for substitutions in advance of the competition starting.

Reserve competitors must be entered online via BUCS Play within the ‘Reserve list’ before the entry closing date. There is no cost for submitting competitors to the reserve lists. Institutions are encouraged to fully utilise the submission of a reserve list.

Reserves will only be charged an entry fee if they are accepted into the competition

Withdrawal and Changes

Withdrawals must be made in writing by an athletic union or students’ union and e-mailed to the BUCS Event Manager. 

Withdrawals after the entry closing date will still be charged the entry fee. Withdrawal of a competitor does not guarantee a replacement into the competition.

Institutions can only make changes to their entries from competitors listed as guaranteed, non-guaranteed, or on the reserve lists. The reserve lists must be entered via BUCS Play before the entry closing date.

Competitors who do not withdraw, and do not register at the venue, will be classified as a ‘no-show’ and charged the entry fee and an additional £50 fine payable by the competitor’s athletic union or students’ union.
