Entry Process

Individual entries:

  1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  3. BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list

Relays: 

  1. Institution Adinistrator to apply for relay team. 
  2. Students will need to join the relay team on BUCS Play through the event' (help guide: How participants join team events.
  3. Approving relay entries does not take place on the Dashboard. You will need to locate your team within the Event Teams section of the community and manually move your selected students into the Squad. (help guide: Adding team members into the squad of an event team)
  4. This can also be done by an appointed captain for the specific relay team.

 

  1. At least 120 minutes before the event, 8 athletes must be declared per relay to the regestration desk. For the race, 4 students out of this 8 must go to the call room. 
  2. Athletes involved in the relay must be entered into another event at this competition or be listed as a reserve.

 

Para Events

Ambulant 60m (Men’s and Women’s)

Ambulant Long Jump (Men’s and Women’s)

Ambulant Shot Put (Men’s and Women’s)

Each instituion is permitted unlimited para entries, however only the top two placing athletes will be awarded BUCS points.

As per REG 6.1.2.1.7, If there are less than 8 competitors in an event, a competitor must have beaten a fellow competitor within the same competition to be eligible for BUCS points, but all competitors finishing in the top three for any race will be awarded a BUCS medal.

Entry Allowance

All BUCS member institutions may submit two entries per event, excepted for para events where they can submit unlimited entries. If an event reaches capacity one athlete per institution will be granted entry in the first instance (the athlete with the best performance over the past two years).

The second entrants per institution will then be ranked in best performance order and will fill the remaining spaces in that event.

Please note that for ALL events, 2 athletes can be selected as guaranteed. 

Athletes MUST have a valid performance in the required qualifying period in the event(s) that they wish to enter.  Failure to do so, will result in automatic rejection.

Eligibility

This event is open to students at BUCS member institutions only. Competitors should have available a valid student identification card, or another form of photographic identification, to confirm their eligibility for the competition. These may be requested at any time during the event.

Best Performance - needed for entry

To be able to compete a person must have competed in that event since 1st November 2019 and have a link to a Power of 10 profile, European Athletics Website, World Athletics website, or their national website, providing it take us to the individuals profile. that proves this BP.

A person wishing to compete in the 3000m, Triple Jump or Pole Vault must also meet that Entry Standard.

All athletes must provide a link to their Power of 10 Profile (or international equivalent, emailed to Jude Pickett and translated into English) when applying for the event on BUCS Play. All electronic links for Best Performance will be checked.

These standards must have been achieved between 1st November 2019 and the entry closing date 31st January 2023. This applies to Reserves/substitutes as well.

Indoor Permitted Performances

This table outlines the BPs that will be accepted for each event. These have to be on Power of 10. 

Reserves (Substitutes)

Reserves must be entered on BUCS Play alongside the entries which must include a link to Power of 10 or equivalent. 

If a participant is already entered into an event, including relay they do not need to be entered as a reserve. 

There is no limit to the number of reserves an institution can enter. Only athletes named on the reserve list or already competing in the competition will be able to be used as substitutes.

Substitutes must have an eligible BP within the last three years, meaning between 1st November 2019 and the entry closing date 31st January 2023, for the event they are to be substituted into and this will be checked when the substitution is made.

Following the closure of entries and any subsequent checking of Best Performances, athletes on the reserve list will not be allowed to be substituted into an event from which they have previously been rejected if the reason for rejection was failing to provide a Best Performance within the last 3 years, failing to provide a Power of 10 link (or equivalent results link) or not meeting the required standard where standards are necessary.

Withdrawals & Substitutions

Once entries have closed, information will appear here about making withdrawals and substitutions.

Prior to entries closing, IAs can reject students on BUCS Play if they need to withdraw.

Event Clashes

Anyone wishing to compete in overlapping events MUST inform seeding by filling out the Entry clashes form If possible, please email Maddi Cannell by midday on Thursday 23rd February 2023.  After that they will have to fill in the form which will be  available at the event and handing in to registration at least 120 minutes before the first of the events.  Track events always take precedence.

NB. We shall try to meet your preferences, but NO guarantee is given.

Entry Rejections

  • Entry rejections will be published by the 20 Febuary 23 on the BUCS Website.
  • No late entries will be accepted regardless of reason.
  • Any entry without a Po10 link (or equivalent) will be rejected.
  • Entries that do not meet an Entry Standard will be rejected.
  • Entries without a BP achieved between 1st November 2019 and the entry closing date 31st January 2023 will be rejected.
  • Entries without a BP submitted may be rejected.

Fines

Athletes and teams who fail to advise the event manager about withdrawals or substitutions prior to the 120-minute deadline before the event will be liable to a fine.

Any student withdrawing from the final of an event will face the above fine and will not be permitted to compete in any other events during the Championships.

Photography

During this event, various filming, photography and broadcasting may take place. By your presence at this event, you grant your permission for your likeness and voice to be included in pictures and/or on film, and their advertising without compensation or credit.

The BUCS Athletics Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, and the UKA (UK Athletics) Rules of Competition.
