Swimming is one of the biggest individual sports within BUCS. The individual programme consists of the Short Course Championships in the first term and the Long Course Championships in the second term. These two Championships include events for para-swimmers. There is also a Team Championships which consists of three divisions with Regional Qualifying Rounds leading to National Finals, all taking place across one weekend.
On the international level, Swimming is part of the BUCS international programme and is competed at the World University Summer Games.
The international University Sports Federation (FISU) organise the World University Games (the Universiade) every two years. The Universiade is widely recognised as the second largest multisport Games in the world after the Olympics and progressively has risen to World Class in scale and standard, with over 10,000 participants from 150+ countries.
