The Windsurfing programme offers a major championship with over 200 student competitors. The event is run in partnership with the Student Windsurfing Association and offers a range of levels of competition depending on experience.

Entries need to be submitted on BUCScore, our online entry system. Please speak to your Athletic Union as they will need to submit your entry on this system.

Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in both Men’s and Women’s in each League. Only competitors in the advanced competition will be eligible for BUCS points.
Medals will be awarded to the top 3 institutions in the team event (please note that only 1 team per institution will count towards placings). Teams will consist of 3 competitors.
Please note, in order to take part in the team event, competitors must enter the team competition on BUCScore. Entering the individual competitions will not automatically enter you for the team race.
Advanced (Able to water-start)
Intermediate (Able to beach-start and sail upwind)
Beginner (Non-planning only)
Team Racing (For Advanced and Intermediate standard competitors)
The race officer reserves the right to move a competitor from one league to another during the course of the event if he or she is obviously not of the appropriate ability level for the conditions.
Individual racing will take place on the Saturday and on Sunday there will be a Team racing competition. This will be run in a relay format using the SWA one-design kit as stated below. There will be three competitors to a team and each university may enter as many teams as kit allows.

All universities are reminded of BUCS Regulation WIN2 which states that all competing institutions must be affiliated to the Student Windsurfing Association. For further details regarding this please contact email@example.com.
Details are to be confirmed by the student windsurfing association on their website www.swa.co.uk no later than Sunday 6th April.
The SWA damage deposit system shall be used and the cost of any damage caused will be divided between all universities entered or where possible charged directly to the responsible university. University windsurf clubs should ensure that they check their damage deposit balance is positive before attending the event. If this is not the case the club will not be able to attend. If necessary, the SWA treasurer will contact clubs that need to bring a top-up cheque.
Registration will take place on Friday evening (6:00-10:00pm) and also on Saturday morning (8:30-9.30am).
The Team Briefing will take place after breakfast on the Sunday morning, although this may change subject to weather forecast. Information will be available at registration.
Sport Specific Rules:
Equipment shall be unrestricted except for the following:
Advanced league: Max board width 80cm. Max sail size 7.5m2
Intermediate league: Max board width 80cm. Max sail size 6.5m2
Beginner league: Dagger boards must be used. Max sail size 6.5m2
Team racing: SWA one-design kit - RRD Firerace 120L & Tushingham Express 7.5m sail (or any sail 7.0m and below.)
In the case of competitors or universities who don’t have their own equipment to use, it is suggested that they contact the other university windsurf club presidents before the event using the SWA email lists/presidents facebook group, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org. In the Beginner league all kit is pooled and available for use however it is expected that Advanced and Intermediate competitors have their own kit. Please note that there is NO undercover storage.
Personal buoyancy MUST be worn in the Beginner league at all times. Harnesses DO NOT constitute personal buoyancy. A harness or buoyancy aid is required for intermediate Advanced and Intermediate leagues.
Competitors, their clubs, or Athletic Union are responsible for all travel, accommodation and subsistence costs. BUCS cannot accept responsibility for personal loss or injury while attending a BUCS event.
Athletic Union Offices and University Windsurfing Teams should be aware that at BUCS Championships entries WILL NOT be accepted after the closing date and certainly not on the day of competition. University Windsurfing Teams are this year able to register reserves via the BUCS online entry form however substitutions can NOT be made after Friday 18th April 2014.
