The final day of BUCS Conference 2025 was a hive of activity, headlined by three fascinating keynote sessions.

Paralympic gold medallist, Richard Whitehead MBE took to the main Conference stage to open the day’s proceedings, sharing stories about his incredible career.

It was out of the lecture theatre and into the morning breakout sessions, before a chance for networking with peers and BUCS partners.

After that quick break, delegates returned to the main auditorium for this year’s Ask BUCS. Will Roberts, CEO, was joined by three members of the BUCS Board for the session that allows the membership to pose questions to the panel.

A spot of lunch was on the cards, before our second keynote of the day from British weightlifter and Olympic silver and bronze medallist, Emily Campbell.

The former BUCS athlete and Leeds Beckett University graduate discussed her career to date, which includes making history as the first British woman to win an Olympic medal in the sport at Tokyo 2020.

Following Emily’s keynote, the last breakout sessions of the week took place and then it was time for one final opportunity to network.

Adopting its usual spot as the Conference closer, our In Conversation session had a slightly different look to previous years.

Not one, not two, but three guests were in attendance. History making duo of Orrin Carson and Robyn Munro, gold medallists from mixed doubles curling at the FISU Winter World University Games were joined by veteran Chef de Mission, Chris Purdie.

The GB Students themed panel, hosted by former BUCS Student Officer, Peter Sawkins, could not be more apt, coinciding with the opening day of the FISU Summer World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr.

The engaging session brought a brilliant week at the University of Hull to an end. Tonight, it’s our annual Awards evening, where we’ll crown 13 winners.
