This year’s largest member event with the theme of 'Securing our future: Sustainable growth in HE Sport' kicked off at the University of Hull today.

Over 300 delegates descended on Middleton Hall at the University of Hull for lunch and a networking opportunity, signalling the beginning of Conference 2025.

At 1.30pm it was time to head to the lecture theatre for a welcome from BUCS CEO, Will Roberts, before hearing from Dr Stephanie Harris, Director of Policy at Universities UK.

During the keynote, Stephanie shared her own personal experience, before discussing the importance of the underlying value sport must play in the higher education sector and wider community for students.

An hour later, delegates attended today’s only batch of breakouts, with five engaging sessions to choose from, delivered by BUCS and institution staff as well as BUCS partners.

It was then time for another chance to network with peers from the sector, before we headed back to the lecture theatre for one final keynote.

BUCS Chair, Professor Amanada Broderick took to the Conference stage to discuss the value of sport to an institution, capping off a brilliant first day of insights and key learnings.

Tonight, delegates will be enjoying a social sports evening run by Active Fusion, while our hosts Hull will deliver two wheelchair rugby league sessions and a Hyrox fitness session.
