We stand with our partners the FA in a social media blackout this weekend to tackle online abuse, racism or harassment.

This weekend, sports organisations will unite with the FA in a social media blackout to tackle online abuse, racism or harassment. At BUCS, we stand beside our partners the FA and will also be taking part in the social media blackout from 3pm on Friday 30 April to 11:59pm on Monday 3 May.

Nobody should have to suffer abuse, racism or harassment on social media because they play sport.

Vince Mayne, BUCS Chief Executive Officer, said: “No matter if are an individual who takes up sport at university, or are a professional athlete on the world stage, no-one should have to suffer online abuse, racism or harassment. On behalf of BUCS, I fully support the FA’s efforts to end this, and would encourage our university clubs to take part in the social media blackout this weekend to stand up to online hate.

Sometimes silence speaks volumes.”
