Squad Declarations

Student’s must apply to the correct team for their institution by Tuesday 12 April 2022 at 23:59pm.

Any swimmers not applied for the team by the deadline will not be allowed to participate in the Speedo and BUCS Swimming Team Championships 2022. No late additions or substitutions will be allowed. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you submit a maximum number of swimmers, including reserves, to allow for injuries etc.

Withdrawals

If an institution needs to withdraw any teams originally entered, you must notify BUCS ASAP and by Friday 1 April 2022 at the latest. In accordance with SWI 10.1, teams withdrawing two weeks or less before the start of the Championships will be fined £300.

Format

There shall be three divisions for the Championships: Championship, Trophy and Shield.

Each division shall consist of a Qualifying Round (Split as Conference A and Conference B) and a Finals over a 2 day period at 1 single venue.

For the Qualifying Round within each division, teams will be allocated to the conferences based on finishing positions in the 2019-20 Finals. For those teams relegated to lower divisions, overall team times from the previous season’s Qualifying Rounds will be used.

Please note: Once entries have been received, conferences will be re-drawn. Teams are likely to move conferences once entries have been received, and up until the final withdrawal deadline of Friday 1 April. Therefore start times are subject to change up until then.

Timekeepers & Specific Requirements

Timekeepers

All participating teams MUST provide a timekeeper equipped with a stopwatch for BOTH their Qualifying Round and Finals (if they have qualified). Points may be deducted from any teams failing to comply.

Timekeepers should apply for the team in the same way as competitors.

Institution Administrators must then select them as a Timekeeper within the team.

Specific Requirements

If you have any para-swimmers participating in your team who require specific requirements for competing, e.g. Strobe lights, use of ‘tappers’ etc. please advise Olivia Hellas of this in advance of the event. Any para-swimmers requiring the use of tapping devices, blackened goggles or starting devices MUST have these signed off by the head official before competition commences.
